Maps being priced that low seems like an anomaly since there's been a whole mess of "supply" bots on Aether who are scripted to server hop and buy out any maps that are within a certain acceptable price range, then mail them to the parties that are actually doing the farming.

But yeah, I suppose it wouldn't really change much in the long run. They already purchase them at rates of around three every few minutes when they actually need them anyways.

The only QoL change I want is for the time lock out to be per map type or map level range (i.e. <50, 51 to 60, 61 to 70 and 80 would have different lock outs) rather than all maps.

Maps by their nature are gil generators especially if you get a portal. One of the reasons that they got to the 90k range was because the average return on investment is so high.

They're usually between 30-60K on my server. It changes by the day. I don't see any map parties up in the party finder, though and when I set up one myself or ask around for a map orientated linkshell invite...there's just radio silence.

At the very least, it'd be nice to be able to gather one type of each map per day.

Exactly! I also don't get that reaction.

People currently use mailboxes to bypass this, so how is it any different from being able to carry more than 1 map? I also didn't speak about removing the timer, if anything, it's good that the timer exists. Another thing is that not everyone can have a party of 8 for maps all the time, so the 16 maps per group argument is void. And even then, 16 can still not be enough since the portal isn't guaranteed to appear 100% of the time and you can easily get kicked out early on if you're unlucky. I also can't comprehend what correlation there is between being able to only carry 1 map and the market prices (since there will still be the timer), so I'd appreciate if someone could explain this.

Why would they care about maps more than any other item in the game, though, and give it this special treatment?

Reading this, I can see how this would be a problem, but still, bots will still be able to do this by using the mailbox. Also, instead of making life harder for the players, the solution is to get rid of the bots instead, yet here we are... This said, thank you for your answer. It was helpful.

Do... you not understand how maps work or their value?
There's a reason why they're consistently worth at least 30k if not as high as 50k on most servers.
When a patch comes out that adds new craftable items and the materials to maps, they can sell for millions upon millions. Maps suddenly become a huge boon to have.
If you could hoard maps and just hit them one after the other, for no cost to yourself, you could gain a monopoly on the market, or crash it, for no cost to yourself. In addition, maps themselves would become more susceptible to market manipulation, and would likely plummet in value.
This way, people who don't run the maps can make money by selling them, and if you want the big pay offs from the new items, you have to invest your own gil back into the economy.

I do understand how they work and their value. Thank you very much. If people wanna farm maps, more power to them. No one is keeping anyone else from doing the same. It's their choice to either run maps or not. Like said before, people can still hoard maps anyway even with the restriction. Besides, there are many other ways to make money other than maps. This said, I guess having a restriction on retainers to only allow them to sell 1 map at a time might help. Or perhaps make it 3 maps in your own inventory instead of 1 or something. 1 is just too little, especially for someone like me, who only has and can only afford 2 retainers.

Gonna regurgitate what I say on this subject when I see it pop up. Bots do get banned, the issue is they come back because of how easy it is to bypass bans. Perm bans are able to be bypassed as well, it just takes longer. You also have to realize that the people who control bots are whales. In a nutshell: they have the money to fund as many accounts as they want, so even if they run into a problem with one they can just get another one up immediately with no issue. It's basically like fighting a brick wall unless they put in some form of anti-cheat imo, but that also probably means things like gshade, non-bot mods and other similar innocent things would be taken away too.

The maps were added to the game in ARR as a regular daily activity. Players were expected to find a map ever 18 to 24 hours and do it that day rather than stockpile 5+ and do them as part of a big group.

The thing is I reported an FC of bots aaaages ago, yet I still see the exact same bots alive and kicking, and the FC leader is still mass-crafting and selling on the MB. I'm sorry but the only conclusion I can get out of this is that bot reports aren't taken seriously.

I can't remember that era very well, so feel free to correct me, but wasn't the loot from maps back then pretty meh and there were no portals? My point is that what made sense back then may not be valid today.
