Idea for venues

This is just my opinion but compared to when I first joined FF to now (approx. 9-10 months) there have been a lot more 18+ ads in the PF, some using multiple people to spam the same ad over and over. I can't really speak for the landscape two years ago, but if it has been steadily increasing...I'm kind of not super shocked that some people started getting annoyed by it. Maybe back then no one really took it seriously because it wasn't to the point that it is at now with how popular opening these types of venues are?

Can't really say for sure unless someone who was around during that time weighs in.

From that thread, I think this comment maybe sums it up:

It's likely grown because people have found they can make gil off of it. So I wonder how much of it helps fuel RMT.

To be fair, I wasn't aware of how big some of this was until some of these threads. I tended to think this is minority stuff. So I expect the scale is probably a more recent phenomenon if people were surprised 2 years ago or thought of it as a small or a non issue.

That could be the main reason. When I joined the game 5 years ago, the erp stuff was more a joke people would mention to get a quick laugh and more often than not, Balmung was also tied to those erp jokes because it was considered the main RP server. Also, cross world hopping was not a thing yet either so even if erp existed, it was some really insular stuff. So basically, if someone wanted to erp for reals, you had to go look for it.

Five years later and I just get the feeling that some erpers subconsciously or not feel like they've been given some imaginary green light to be brazen and slap their services wherever they can: pf, shout chat, fellowships, you name it.

So there's that irony: had they kept quiet, none would've really been the wiser and complaint threads about them wouldn't be as numerous as they are now.

Maybe it's because I have 0 faith in people, but the only reason it got to this is because there are non RPers who legit wanted to take advantage of the same people they probably make fun of behind the screens, to make easy gil.

This is my take just from hearing in my own time in game that people were planning to open venues strictly to mane gil off ERP. It's always sort of left a bad taste in my mouth. It's half profiting off a community you don't enjoy or partake in normally and half making it harder for legit RPers to separate from the ERP stigma that that's all they're after.

I don't even necessarily think there is even a gil/RMT component. I think it is more so they kept pushing the line little by little until it turned into a pf cancer. This erp nonsense was not but a myth and a meme for the most part during HW and SB. It's only been the past year that it's got this bad.

I don't really agree we need the RP tab. The hardcore RPers know each other well enough and they have LS's for it. The community itself isnt even that large on most servers. Really this issue, and the only reason we keep seeing it on the forums, is people just trying to make gil off of playing pretend. Which w/e, you do you... but the people who want to actually play the game and not want to see it shouldn't have to, tab or not.

edit - I do apologize if someone reads this and thinks I hate how they play if they do the venue stuff. Again, if it ain't 18+ stuff I don't care morally. Where I'm quickly drawing the line though and finding irritation in this subject is we're not even talking about actual RP anymore. We're talking about this increasing trend of people realizing they can charge 20k for a 200gil drink if they call it RP. Enough. Do you but don't think this is an actual content of FFXIV and needs dev attention. Keep it out of DF.
