The vast majority of players didn't even know they existed, though. Besides, those players already enjoyed a period of exclusivity. I've never seen anyone use either item either before that controversy or after it.

Wouldn't surprise me if it just happens a large chunk of those players quit playing with the direction the game was taking after Heavensward given they were invested enough in 1.23 that they beat Nael hard.

That's kind of the point. Pre event, you knew if you saw someone with the earrings where they got them from, and what it took.
The amount of remaining 1.x players is small as is, and that was the hardest content. Of course they were rare. I probably saw 2 or 3 on balmung back then.
Now it's a meaningless glamour. I'm sure many took them off after.
Tho, to be fair, with the amount of run selling going on, they might as well give out ultimate weapons and titles for a rising event.
My stance has always been for rare items to be rare for a specific period of time and then be made available to everybody. I say that as someone who bought every single statue with emotes attached to them purely for the emotes.
There's people who want something because they find it to cool and something they're genuinely going to use and others who want something just to hold it over other players. My belief is that the game should be appealing to the former rather than the latter.

So you are fine with rising ultimate stuff? Cool.My stance has always been for rare items to be rare for a specific period of time and then be made available to everybody. I say that as someone who bought every single statue with emotes attached to them purely for the emotes.

Ultimate weapons aren't really the same thing, though. They can still be obtained if someone wants to aim for them. The 1.0 items, however, are longer accessible.
Previous Feast rewards would be the equivalent, I suppose. They're no longer obtainable and ranked PvP has apparently been plagued by win trading/cheating and boosting - so I'd be more than happy for such rewards to be made available to regular players.
I get not wanting to share it, as you worked hard for x and it was your reward for that effort. But it's been nearly 10 years. There will be a lot more people enjoying the earrings now who currently play then the probably incredibly small handful who have it at this point. No ones wearing em, no one knows what they're from, I don't see a reason to keep it to the 1.0 players honestly.
To be fair... I simply just don't value game items anymore so maybe that's just me. I've been playing MMOs since I was 14. You know what happened to all my items I had such pride in from FFXI and SWTOR? They might as well don't exist because I havent logged in for countless years and don't plan to any time soon. My 1.0 stuff here sits in a retainer collecting dust. None of it really matters at the end of the day. Not trying to make it a jab to people who do find value in their items... I just don't think it's important enough to keep an obscure award from 10 years ago away from people who are actually playing now.

I don't like item appearances being time-exclusive and locked away forever, but I do think they need to be distinct from the original.
They should have had replica White Ravens for the event so the original item remained unique for bragging rights. At least they corrected it for Mog Station.
I do think they should offer an in-game option to exchange the real ones for replicas, though. There's actually a functional benefit to doing so, since they're able to be glamoured onto things like the EXP-boosting earrings, and it might take a lot of those "undeserved" ones out of circulation.
I'd really like to see replica versions of the EXP earrings as well. No benefits, just let the glamour be accessible.

Generally I think via function of time nothing should ever be limited, 1, 2 year exclusive? Sure. If I recall correctly the white ravens were made to seem like one time ever limited edition items, so I can see why someone might be frustrated (though I personally would then say, just don't make limited items, only time exclusivity type of limited). But in a general sense I don't believe in exclusive anything. Heck I personally also think the challenge doesn't need to be preserved so long as you also give it a function of time, which is why I'm always for the rolling mountain FFXIV has done so far to most content (which allows you to start with time and skill gifted players and slide down to those with limited time or even, to a point, limited skill too). With only something like ultimate not getting hit by the mountain. Time serves us all lol.

Generic 1.0 items making a comeback is fine, the normal items that people got because they needed/wanted it, not because they thought it'd be made unavailable forever at a later date.
In general though, exclusive stuff should remain exclusive forever.
