It's really perplexing why so many people fail to understand that I'm not suggesting that any content be removed at all. I'm only suggesting that the MSQ, particularly the 80 or so ARR, level 50 MSQ, be pared down, not by removing those quests from the game, but rather be moved to side quests. I personally, completed all of them the last time I played, about a year ago. I vividly remembering them being a drudge, and friends that I've played MMO's for a long time, losing interest in the game.

Dunno if you have answered, but which quests you deemed to be okay to move to side quests?

I doubt if you have any real data on what "most players" want. I don't think you really have any idea of how many people quit once they reach the ARR MSQ.

I'm not sure why Japanese players are singled-out, as if their opinion should carry more weight than the rest of us. Lest you think I'm being racist, I was born in Japan, but raised in the US. My mother is Japanese, my father American. The last time I checked, I could be considered a Japanese citizen.

Sheesh.. chill, I'm just saying that the devs probably care more about the Japanese fanbase' opinion since they are the bigger market.

People can help get you through the MSQ as there are many dungeons and trials throughout the MSQ. In fact, it's impossible to go through the MSQ playing solo at the intended level.

Are you saying you do not have or cannot make other friends in the game that have gone through the MSQ while still have other friends that play other games?

No. The duty finder queue is pretty fast, even for dps, if you choose the specific dungeon you need, as opposed to queuing for a roulette. Why bother friends for something that is trivial?

If you really want, then voila you can already do that by asking them to run the content with you. It's not about trivial, it's about having fun with your friends. And well if they are annoyed by your request, maybe they aren't your friends?

So you said in other post that "my friends would help me if they could", but here when people have pointed out that yes they can, nothing prevents them from doing that, you basically said you don't even try it.

You don't bother friends. You hang out with them, unless you think them only as tools to help you get through non-trivial contents.

It really isn't a long wait, if you sign up for a specific dungeon rather than a roulette. I don't know if that's because players are given a priority if it's their first time, or if that's always true. All I know is the wait is so minimal, there is no point in bothering max level toons for trivial reasons.

Of course I can't answer that question unless I start a new toon. I finished ARR a long time ago, and my objective back then was just slogging through them, not writing down which fetch quests were unnecessary. I found most of them pretty boring. But you knew the answer to that before you asked it, didn't you? That people aren't going to write down the names of boring quests, instead of hoping they will end soon?

But now I've found it's not just me. Two members of my household, both long time MMO players have since abandoned the ARR MSQ, the latest one with only about 4 quests to go. Both are former Everquest players and so know time wasters when they see them.

However, both are burned out on theme park MMOs, as am I. It's possible that players who aren't as burned out on them might enjoy them.

Actually, you're right. There's pretty much nothing I can do to help them, since most of the MSQ is solo.

Most of you have not made ad hominem attacks in this thread and no one has ever been unkind in game although, of course, some people have made me think unkind thoughts about them.

All of you have set a nice tone, and so while I've gotten burned out and am taking a break from FF14, I don't plan to cancel my subscription. Which I actually planned to do when I first posted.

The civility of most of you has reminded about why I keep coming back to FF14.

We all have the same goal! enjoying the game and letting others do the same.

Part of the reason people bring up leaving the game as an alternative is because there are some issues that are moreso personal rather than issues with gameplay (the msq being mandatory is one of said issues) and 9 times out of 10 it's with genuine intent and not out of a malicious need to see "dissenters" out the front door. I know it's that way for me - why pay for a game when the core mechanics of the game lead you to not enjoy the game? I would much rather someone be happy, even if it's not with the same game I enjoy.

But nonetheless I'm glad you found your reason for staying. It's always sad to see someone go.
