...I think you're getting entirely hung up on the arbitrary naming of the roulettes.

Those dungeons are required for the story... because they're part of the story.

MSQ Roulette is just the name of a roulette... and roulettes aren't part of the story... they're a tool for getting people into queues.

This is a story driven game, everything is part of the story unless it's specifically a side quest that has no consequences on the rest of the story.

For the 2nd time, because that's how FF14 was designed and it works for the majority of people. If you don't want dungeon locks, you can play WoW or Albion Online or stick with NMS. Nitpicking a name of a roulette and ignoring what people are saying isn't cute.

But that doesn't at all help us dps get through the MSQ required dungeons.

Because the roulette labelled "Main Scenario" is an odd labelling choice that is more accurately the "ARR Finale" roulette.

All the other dungeons that form part of the MSQ are included in either the levelling or 50/60/70 or level 80 roulettes. That does not somehow strip them of context and make them unnecessary for the MSQ.

The simplest answer is, this is a JRPG at its core with an MMO wrapped around it, and a JRPG generally involves progressing through a series of story-relevant dungeons. So that is what this game does. It tells a story designed to guide you from dungeon to dungeon with story events inbetween.

Oh if you're referring to the wait timers: that's due to the majority of people playing a DPS class. You have much quicker queues as healer or tank. Unfortunately, if you have 100+ dps in line for a dungeon, you still gotta wait for a tank and healer to queue to even get in.

An easy solution is to ask on the PF for a healer or tank to help you out with queues as I do see a lot (at least in my DC) offering to speed people through queues when they finish their roulettes for the day.

Well, all up you will spend 2 or 3 weeks mining ferrite/cobalt/carbon and refining that. A lot more clicking than an average ffxiv house needs.

My take, the FF story is fairly ok, it's probably just not the game for you. Enjoy NMS. I do, with 1500 hours under my belt so far.

To be clear, I'm mostly complaining about the 80 MSQ quests to get out of ARR and such, which I have done, but the friends I play with, two of whom I played Everquest with, one of whom will never return, one of whom is close to giving up.

Probably because they know better than to fall for this trap.

I think its great that your friends know what they're looking for in a game and that they pick a game that suits there needs! If FFXIV isnt that game for them, thats fair - it suits different needs (or probably "wants" would be a better word...) that different people might have.

Isnt it great that there are so many games out there that we all have a high chance of finding one that really hits the spot for us? For some that might be Everquest, for some - and I would include myself in that category - its FFXIV. And for me the storyfocus, that most dungeons are connected to the story, that I always know why I'm in that dungeon and why I'm fighting that monster there, is a huge part of why FFXIV hits my spot - it doesnt have to hit your spot, it doesnt have to hit the spot of your friends. There are many games out there to chose from... and I'm happy for your friends if they found a game they can enjoy!
Not everyone has to enjoy everything - but if you try to turn something that already exists but that you dont enjoy into something you enjoy, you might just make that into something thats less enjoyable for the people who liked the "original" thing... seems hardly fair to me.

If FFXIV has to much that you - or your friends - dont like or that you cant get your head around, theres nothing wrong with switching to a different game thats more fun to you.

Theres no trap, it used to be worse. They shortened it. I'm sorry it's not to the length you prefer but people like me had to go through 100+ at one point. Whatever was kept has some relevancy to the main story or characters in general.

I feel its quite the oppisite, the Warring triad, omega, Ivalice should have been MSQ stuff as well, it is first and foremost a storydriven game and they limit and handycap themselfs so much by making so many things "side stuff" only... we loose out voicing bc of that as well...
