NMS is basically an exploration game with an underwhelming story and a focus on making your own hubs across different planets. Some people use them to make massive houses and others use them to make massive farms to exploit the system (myself being one when I last played).
So yes, basically a housing/building sim with enough people bored that they started breaking the economy of the game for something to do. I have more money than I will ever need in that game because I got so bored and decided to join in.

You mean the roulette that's set up for a pair of dungeons SE wisely decided to never do again because it didn't go so well, but at the same time are 100% required for the story? Unless they decide to completely change those dungeons, they aren't going anywhere.
Exactly!
So why are all the other dungeons required as part of the MSQ? But aren't included in the roulette if they are important?

Because they're relevant to the story. They're literally the ending to the main ARR story.
I think the issue you're having is that you just dont want dungeons included in MSQ at all. Which is fair enough, I had a person in my FC who felt the same. However, this isn't WoW or NMS or any other game. This is FF14 and how they chose to set it up and it works for the majority of people. It won't be changing unless they're planning to drop a bomb on all of us with 6.0 and completely rip the whole game apart.
Also, just so you know, the majority of dungeons are in roulettes in the different categories. If you want Primal fights, go for Trials. If you want a chance to basically get any dungeon under the sun, go for Leveling. If you want raids like the Crystal Tower ones or Nier, go for Alliance Raids. Normal Raids will give you Alexander or Eden. Expert & Level 80 have, I think 3 or 4 to pick from? Like...

...I think you're getting entirely hung up on the arbitrary naming of the roulettes.
Those dungeons are required for the story... because they're part of the story.
MSQ Roulette is just the name of a roulette... and roulettes aren't part of the story... they're a tool for getting people into queues.
This is a story driven game, everything is part of the story unless it's specifically a side quest that has no consequences on the rest of the story.

For the 2nd time, because that's how FF14 was designed and it works for the majority of people. If you don't want dungeon locks, you can play WoW or Albion Online or stick with NMS. Nitpicking a name of a roulette and ignoring what people are saying isn't cute.

Because the roulette labelled "Main Scenario" is an odd labelling choice that is more accurately the "ARR Finale" roulette.
All the other dungeons that form part of the MSQ are included in either the levelling or 50/60/70 or level 80 roulettes. That does not somehow strip them of context and make them unnecessary for the MSQ.
The simplest answer is, this is a JRPG at its core with an MMO wrapped around it, and a JRPG generally involves progressing through a series of story-relevant dungeons. So that is what this game does. It tells a story designed to guide you from dungeon to dungeon with story events inbetween.
