The crossover was pretty much bog standard mobile gacha fare in terms of story telling, and that's usually something like, "Otherworldly element appears for random reason, you team up with the good guys to defeat their themely bads, and then they just disappear with no long-term pertinence to the rest of the game's plot." And to that end, it can unfortunately be seen as a long-term advertising campaign for Replicant for this reason alone, which just (re)launched recently. The only thing missing was some P2W mechanic or DLC class like unlocking a YorHa job that'd do more damage in the raid to tempt people into buying. The timing of Final Fantasy: War of the Visions also having a Nier crossover on its Global servers shouldn't be discounted for this reason, as well.

One thing that confuses me is why they didn't use voice acting in fights to the same effect as Orbonne Monastery. I feel like that really made things more memorable and was hoping that it would become a trend going forward.

They kind of did with the talking at the beginning of the Copied Factory, but then didn't bother to voice over the rest.

The "dodge middle" and "dodge side" mechanics are seriously overused in this tier.

Orbonne Monastery slapped you with a sniper meca at the beginning saying "You show promises, but promises can't save you from what comes next."
Voice lines had a huge impact. But I believe there was presentation aswell.

Mustadio, Agrias and Count Cidolfus Orlandeau The Thunder God were reimagined, adapted to XIV, modeled in XIV, while Nier was Yoko Taro straight up injecting Nier into XIV.
The last one, you had 3 kind of reactions:
    1) "Oh no, it's Count Cidolfus Orlandeau The Thunder God"
    2) "Oh no, it's Ozma map"
    3) "Oh no, it's an OST from Vagrant Story"

Here, if you didn't played Drakenguard, it was just 2B with flowers and a blank city you, at most, saw in Drakenguard videos.
One thing well presented was the hacking minigame, that was good and unique, surprising. But it was the only thing of its kind and I wish there was more of it. The elevator was disappointing compared to the original.

And then, you have the Nier fanboys claiming it's the best 24 man raid, that it cannot be improved and anyone saying the opposite is absolutely wrong.

Seriously, I think there is a sigle boss that doesn't use those.
I'm repeating myself but every mechanics went into Red Girl and all visuals effort into the final boss.

Oohh now that you mention it, yes it does! It reminds me of crossover events from FFBE.

Yeah. While I enjoyed the raids themselves (the fights, the music, some of the glams) the story was bad. It was like a throwaway crossover event story like the FFXI or Monster Hunter crossover events, except stretched out over an entire expansion.

Some of the dwarf stuff was interesting but not enough to carry it. The android part of the story had no effort put into it.

And it's not even a matter of 'you need to have played Automata to get it.' There's just nothing there. Playing automata, Nier, even Drakengard does nothing to make this story better, it only increases the number of references you can pick up on.

Unlike crystal tower and ivalice which made attempts to incorporate things into FFXIV's lore, this was just lazily tacked on. And as much as I love Nier I will not give them a pass on this. They dropped the ball big time. Which is frustrating because there's no reason it couldn't have gotten the CT/Ivalice treatment and worked this into the actual lore and story of FFXIV. They just deliberately chose to go for the lazy crossover story instead.

I genuinely enjoyed it, from the theme, boss fights, and music. Story was somewhat so-so at parts but I can't complain. Most people I know enjoyed at least the raids themselves if not the story.

You just see more complaints as more people are inclined to come to a forum to complain about something than to praise it. Those who are happy with something are usually content with that, with the occasional person wanting to share how happy they are about it.

Those who aren't happy are more likely to go public with it.

There is certainly no evidence that the majority of the NA community didn't like the content. I'm not going to belabor the issue I've made my feeling known on the matter and repeating it doesn't need to be done. It's the only reason why i responded to this thread to begin with. I personally enjoyed the series and hope we'll see more with the weekly quest.
And yet in a lot of complaint threads that are mostly about personal opinions we have people coming in complaining about those complainers and some love to post the sentence about how NA or the forum just loves to complain. I guess it just gets a bit tiring over the time especially since the other side also wouldnt want to be called white knights (for example) if they say something positive. (And yes I know that sadly people exist that call anyone that just enjoys content a white knight)

In the end the OP at least worded it that it "seems" to be mostly negative and just wanted to get some answers about the JP side. I guess it would be more fine if she said "seems mostly positive" even if she could not know that either?

But thanks to those that are able to read JP and found a few answers to her question. So they barely have any discussion at all but most seems to be at least more towards the positive side. Ugh now I really want a ingame poll for this for all languages, not only for an answer but also to see how different the countries are.
