Scriptwriter's Choice! I think you remember right. It's just forgettable because it was a one off. I mean more that, we never have say, Tataru buzz us while we're in The First, and tell us to pat Y'shtola on the hiney.Minor correction, but I'm fairly certain Thancred used a linkpearl to contact us at some point during the Eden questline. But then we also set up a miniature aetheryte so that we could teleport into and out of Eden itself, which Thancred should not be able to do. And since that's the only place I remember linkpearls even coming up on the First, I can't help but wonder if it was just a writing mistake. Or if I'm crazy and remembering something that never happened, lol.
Still, it's weird that linkpearls didn't even get a handwave on the First. They just... don't get acknowledged at all, despite having immense value for long distance communication.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
I personally would like to see more follow up with some of the job quest NPCs. Not necessarily a full blown questline since it seems like they're moving away from job quests as a whole, but I'd enjoy something like the Postmoogle quests where we could see what they're up to. Actually, I'd love to see that kind of quest for most of the earlier expansion sidequest NPCs as well. Obviously, we know how Aymeric, Lyse and Hien are doing, but what about that M-tribe Tia with the daddy issues? Or the Oronir culinarian, has he finally gotten some respect?
Oh, I pretty much doubt that... My guess is that the design will be the same of the tempering towers that appeared across the star. To be honest, I think that tower is exactly the location shown in the trailer where Fandaniel uses the elevator thing to meet Zenos atop.
The Praetorium had a segment that is a near carbon copy of FFVI's Magitek Research Facility, though. More specifically the part right before Nero, with the Ultima Arms. But still, I'm hoping that there's gonna be some kind of technological advanced city to explore... Even if it's something like a version of the Doman Enclave for Garlean survivors that you help with.
Also back on the topic, there is an actual major plot point that I see all but forgotten across the expansions:
The Twelve
I literally see nothing else that references them ingame anymore, and I hope with the Hydaelyn x Zodiark arc resolved, they'll be addressed once more.
Honestly I'm okay with the Twelve just being the deities revered in Eorzea without having to delve into 'why' and just letting them be the background religion of the region.

Plot point I want expanded, or really just more a character I want to explore more: Feo Ul.
I don't think it can be a complete coincidence that her name means treasure/precious and moon when we're going to the moon and the moon has so much to do with Zodiark.
Also, I just want her to still be involved in the MSQ, cus I love her. (Or them. w/e. The English student in me still viscerally rejects the use of plural pronouns for singular objects. lol)

The moon is pretty intertwined with darkness though, both astronomically (obviously) and aetherologically, if its where Zodiark's "body" is. So, while there is obvious ties to Shadowbringers, there could also be more. Not saying Feo Ul has anything directly to do with Zodiark or something. Just potentially tied in thematically, I guess, for lack of a better word?
There's also the fact that Feo Ul is called "Mad Bloom" for some reason that, as far as I'm aware, is never explained? Another detail I'd like to learn.

Other than what's already been suggested, I'd also want to know more about the Elementals themselves.
Like where did they come from, why were they present in Eureka/Isle of Val and their connection (if any) to Hydaelyn herself.
Also, a proper conclusion to both, Laurentius and Yuyuhase (i.e. THEIR EXECUTION).
Forever waiting on *new* Egis/summons (e.g. Ramuh-Egi).
