Just because it bares clarification, epilepsy is a diagnosis for having two or more seizures without identified triggers. If certain frequencies of flashing lights trigger seizures, then you have a photo sensitive seizure disorder. Vomiting is rare during seizures and generally what people are seeing is spit or phlegm coming out since your whole body is seizing up. If someone is experiencing nausea and vomiting while playing that may be more indicative of some sort of motion sickness or possible photosensitivity. Certain medications can make a person more sensitive to bright lights, not seizure inducing, which can cause migraines. It might also be worth looking at other external factors like levels of hydration or lack of sleep.

There's a loads of reasons that this particular raid can be causing people discomfort but from my two runs, I personally didn't see anything that I'd worry about as someone who has photosensitive seizures.

Our triggers are different, even when we fall under the same classification of disorder, so it's also good evidence why only a broad warning for photosensitive epilepsy is placed on games and is usually left at that.

It's like they learned absolutely nothing from Mt. Gulg, the other bright white instance that they had to change later because people were having issues.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

That's what I'm feeling from all this. The entire tier is such an eyestrain. You can have your bleak and monochrome environments without it being like this. Looking at the game in general, though, SE has such an aversion to color and color theory.

I wonder if its because of Covid doing something to QA testing, it's not like it would be strange for Square to chop something as soon as it became inconvenient. But who knows.

Unfortunately I don't think this is going to get any traction at Square Enix, at least not unless something really drastic happens and the gaming press writes some splashy articles about it. CDPR needed to see a photosensitive journalist recount personal testimony about how Cyberpunk 2077 gave her significant medical problems to deal with, and I wouldn't expect anything less here.

Just really unfortunate and frankly I expected better from Square. But that's on me for having expectations.

I am just hoping we someday get blacklists to DF. I used to joke that I wanted it to keep CT out of my roulette forever (I actually got very upset that they made CT mandatory. My alt went for years without CT in her AR roulette.. what wonderful times.), but I really just have to eat the penalty for CF and Tower.

I have a friend who lets me put them on follow for Tower now while I glare bot for my weekly, but I'm really hoping EW comes out soon..

No more Neverreap or Byakko? I'd be good with that.

    1) Has anyone else experienced this after playing Tower?
I have pretty bad motion and light sensitivity, and there's a lot of things in this raid that are overwhelming. I do my best to get in and out for the weekly coin, but it's going to be a hard sell once hunt trains get back to normal. The biggest issue for me is the elevator miniboss fight. Luckily, I've had friends willing to carry me through that and just tell me where to run as I stared at the ground, but it does leave me shaking. To be honest, I think I'm shaking before I get to that point, but that just points to the Red Girl fight being too much graphically for me as well. I also feel like I need to make a note for my girlfriend and my raid leader experiencing intense vertigo during the final boss fight (when you need to look down at the tower through the see through ground). THAT particular mechanic doesn't mess with me as much, but I feel like it should be noted.

    2) Have you needed medical attention after playing Tower?
It hasn't hospitalized me or anything, but I certainly have to rest up after I do it. It takes so much out of me; I feel like my body was hit by a train, not my character. Some of my friends have recommended I add filters to my monitor display, but I don't think that'll help with the motion sickness hell that is the 5th encounter. Such is the life.

    3) If you are diagnosed with epilepsy, what do you do to protect yourself from the particle effects in this game?
    N/A
    4) If you are diagnosed with epilepsy, are you going to play any of the Nier raids or risk Tower at Paradigm's Breach?
N/A, but as someone who gets severely motion sick and had to stop playing the actual Nier, I'll try to do what I can do be a good raider and stop once I'm able. If I have to take the penalty, I feel like people will be understanding after that point. I'm honestly glad I got my 2,000 mentor roulettes before the patch. It lowers my odds of getting this outside of my personal premeditated torment.

I also feel like I have to say I enjoy the raid mechanically. If they add settings to even remove the elevator background, I'd be willing to do it more readily rather than it being an actual pain each week.

Aside from the settings within FFXIV - your monitor should have separate settings you can toy with to see if it will help you in terms of color/brightness, etc. Other than that can screen distance play a role in this? As in would symptoms or episodes be more active the closer you sit to the screen? I know some people sit really close to the screen as if their face is glued to it. That would hurt my eyes and probably give me problems.
