Wouldnt people just choose the easiest content and spam it to get the medal rewards and then just run content as normal and not care?

We already have this system. It's called or in "FATE's". They just need to apply it to actual dungeons/raids, etc.
We do not already have this system. FATEs just look at actions taken and targets tagged. You could do nothing but hit every mob with a single attack, or spam AoE heals on your party even when everyone is full and still get gold.

On the surface, I actually don't mind this concept. I've said myself I would like to see just a personal "report card" pop up at the end of an instance. Nothing big and detailed, and no real rewards tied to it at all, just something that says "You got an A+ for DPS but a C for Damage Taken. You could really work on avoiding more enemy attacks." The problem is, of course, how to actually implement this without it just ending up being a giant pile of extra work on the developers, and with it somehow being equally applicable for Tanks and Healers.
At the end of the day, I guess I just settle on wishing the game itself was more proactive in giving direction and teaching instead of foisting it all off on the players.

Didn't the XV battle system do that? But that was a single player game, so if you didn't get an A, it was 100% your own fault. On the surface, I actually don't mind this concept. Personally, I know when I screwed up my rotation. I don't need the game (or an illegal system like FFlogs) to tell me that much.
But having this in single duty instances (something like Sapphire weapon) or the training stuff (Training Dummy DPS report card mode or the Sky Steel Stone w/e things) might give folks a clue on how to tighten their rotation without relying on the ever fickle whims of other players. I can't get mad when the game itself tells me I suck.

The dps who didn't stack with the stack marker gets a shining A+ for Damage Taken and thinks to himself, good job!

I will rather preffer if they stop buring the dificulty of the game underground constantly and invest on a better hall of the novice to guide way better anyone who need it and encourage his use.
I think is way more positive creating a proper learning curve acording to roles capabilitys and keep it on top level while offering the proper means for players to improve if they get stuck and find help with proper official job/roles guides and other players help ingame instead of allowing them reach max level without knowing how to have a minimun level of performance bcs everything was given on a silver tray and bcs of that everything needs to be design so you can watch netflix while you play. A medal system can be problematic knowing how we are and it won't matter at all if the game still have brain dead levels of dificulty on almost everything.
If SE isn't going to provide the best tool for the job, we know what it is, they should implement something akin to this purposed medal system or style meter. Furthermore, they should also tier the duty finder. So players of similar skill levels are matched together instead of the randomness we currently have.
Have you tried Thok ast Thok in a full sprout party?
Too many new players would quit, in fact I think a lot would quit around Brayflox, if it were forced to all sprout parties on level.
