    Question About How Apartments Work

So, from my understanding when you locate an apartment, it is an one time purchase and when you place furniture in it it is then yours. Also that you won't lose it if you are inactive for a period of time. Is this correct? Also can you decorate it as much as I do for my FC house room?

Correct. One time purchase. Never subject to demolition - the only way to lose your apartment is for you to remove all furnishings and then specifically relinquish it through the Estate Settings menu. If you want to take a break from the game for two years, the apartment will still be there for you when you return to the game. It is just like your FC private chambers when it comes to decorating (100 items placed, 100 in storage).

One little addition: You dont even need to place any furniture in it. Once you bought it, its yours to do with as you please at what time you please. No demolition under any circumstances (except of course for you relinquishing it yourself).

Awesome! I have a fatter cat couch for when I get the final 100,000 gil I need as I had to spend some gil on class quests recently. I am glad to know I won't have to worry about it being ripped from me like I have seen happen to friends with their houses.

Just as a little hint: The Fatter Cat Couch can be crafted by a weaver and the materils are hardly worth the 100k - so unless you have a strong, personal dislike for crafting and anything related to it (or very little time), decorating a housing space could be a really good motivation to pick up some crafters and give it a go!
Leveling them has gotten super easy (or so I heard, my crafters have been level 80 for 2 years now, so I cant confirm myself), specially if you craft the things needed for the Ishgard Restauration project and/or the weekly deliveries. Not only will you be able to make yourself the sofa for a fraction of the price, but you might end up earning

Usually most furniture on the market board is terribly overpriced in regards to the materials used (not all, some use rare mats, but a lot is made from stuff than can be gathered quite cheaply) - its very easy to make, though, as in: No HQ possible, all you have to do is finish the craft, no complexe rotation, no nothing.
Sop, if you have at least a little time to spare, I would advice you to level some crafters and make your furniture yourself (and maybe a little pocket money on the side)

I needed to see this thread cause I've been saving up for an apartment for some time now! I've given up on a house so at least I know apartments won't let me down.

Oh I was given the couch I had to spend the funds for a few quests I had to do with all the travelling I did. I should have clarified, my bad. I plan on learning weaving so I can make LOTs of stuff for my space when I get it

Apartments are better than some players make them sound. It's really just the small size plus lack of outdoor space for a garden patch if you want to garden that are drawbacks. You automatically get a teleport direct to the apartment building and access to a chocobo stable, both of which require separate furnishing purchases if you want them at your house. And of course, you will never lose your apartment unless you intentionally give it up.

They're a good first housing investment while you're saving up/waiting for a house. You have a chance to explore all the interior items available in the game and practice with decorating so you can come up with a style you like plus store interior housing items you might have already acquired through quick ventures, seasonal events and other content.

If you and friends want to be able to share a house but can't get one, you can always all get apartments in the same apartment building (or you can do the same if you have multiple characters on the same world). A click on the door lets you move between rooms as if it's all one big house.

Apartments will never be the same as having a house but they are a decent substitute until you can get one.

Yes, for the most part. It is a one-time purchas for 500K. Items you place inside it binds to you, the same as with houses and FC house rooms. And unlike houses, they aren't auto-demo'd, so you can keep it indefinetly. Its item limit is smaller than other housing units, but still generous enough.

I wish more people on this forum would see this. For a lot of folks here, suggesting they get an apartment is like asking them to move into a ramshackle hovel in the ghetto when that is absolutely not the case.
