Considering that ff14 now is the most profitable game in the series, i don‘t think a new mmo is on the horizon.
I‘d love to see upgrades to the engine. There were tidbits of info in some interviews pointing at that direction. Seems like the devs are at least considering it or working on it in their spare time.

No, it's not. They don't need a new technology to add new options of beard to a game that already has beards in it. They literally included a Lion race full of fur in the face. I think in 7.0 they could dedicate some time to make a big addition to customization in the game, I don't think they really need to overhaul the system, but just add way more options to the stuff that normally don't get new options regularly (like tattoos, beard, scars and etc)
