Japanese women don't like beards and male characters are designed for women, I mean look at *male* vieras, lole. You're never getting bushy beards.

FFXI was also ( still is) the most profitable final fantasy game to date, only reason why it isnt anymore because its not mog station like xiv is

Compete? They would both be from SE so there really wouldn't be any competition.

I understand that the developers.love the game, that's good. Doesn't mean that the game doesn't have it flaws and the battle system really needs an upgrade..

I doubt males would have full beards, i dont think the old engine can handle it like the awful cloth physics this game has lol

Yeah, it did bother me for a while, a huge part of why I went with Highlander when I started was that Midlanders... The best way I can put is that they look like 15 year olds or younger depending on the face. However, looking like a Neanderthal quickly drained the appeal of staring at my character in cutscenes, now I am betting all my hopes on the Midlander stubble, lol.

But yeah, I have a really hard time making a decent looking male character and the lack of beard is definitely up there when it comes to reasons.

There's one Midlander face that gets the beard and it makes you look older just look at my character that's using it.

You're probably right. Endwalker finally added stubble.....and it's not even a cosmetic choice, it's an entirely different Midlander face.

There's also other problems that require attention : hrothgar (the biggest one Imo) or viera hair/helmets. If adding a new beard option is problematic because of the limitations of the game, a rework of old races might be required. This won't happen before a long time. And there's the fact that they can't just take old beards and replace them even if it looks bad.

Yeh, the character creator is rather dated, even by its own standards since games that are just as old, like TERA or GW II, still have better customizations. Even WoW is slowly catching up

Yes but it's extremely limited and you're stuck with a specific face type.
