So SQUARE ENIX, will we finally be getting beards and bushy beards and gandolf beards and hagrid beards with THIS expansion cos im sick of looking like a child!!! I kid you not, its been talked about since 2013 and probably before and no id rather not hear the excuse memory issues when you are porting to PS5, beards do not make that much of a dent on your memory issues, it's a bit of a copout.

So guys can we please keep this thread constant and hopefully get some agreement amongst ya'll because I refuse to be a mage until I get a BIGBUSHYBEARD!!!

This is easily the main reason I switch to a female avatar. Beard options are absolutely trash.

The memory issue, while I'm not saying "it's fine, drop it" (fine by me to keep pushing it lol), is different than what I think you're understanding it as. It's not like space on ram or space on the hdd / ssd.

More like the memory for communication purposes, programming / server stuff. Like if an npc has a special combination of visuals it's just that one character that gets loaded specially locally on your computer, easy peasy - there are lot of examples in game of this happening with half-race / unique faces, etc.

Add those options to your character and suddenly there is more potential information the game has to handle for every single person on the field. I assume this is also why gear sometimes isn't that purty, is there is some behind the scenes budget they are following so they can ensure smooth delivery (personally would prefer less people more quality, but I'm not thinking from a toaster / fridge computer perspective). You can see they get around this issue sometimes by combining certain features in the race menus. You may notice some races don't get a muscle tone slider, but they have other sliders.

I don't recall if Yoshida has ever gone into detail about it, and while interesting to hear I'm sure he knows player response would still be "fix it" lol so not much encouragement to do so, but I'm pretty sure when he says memory issues he's not talking local like concept. More like having to rewrite how characters are handled, and then also potentially having to facilitate more information per every request.

Which again isn't to say I was trying to get you not to ask for more lol, just thought to shift the concept from local storage where I don't think he was referring to and rather the deep code allocations that if changed could have major impacts, in and of itself having to recode deep things, but also the increased budget needed then to share that data.

It's true, there is not enough customisation options for male characters. It's bad enough as a Highlander male I can't even have eyebrows.

As a Mi'qote male, the only decent beard is tied to a face that looks like it was beaten with a brick. Actually, same for highlander. I've seen pizza dough beaten with a rolling pin less mangled.

I wonder though if this is a cultural thing, in that they have no problem with Bishounen (sp?) boys, yet don't seem to understand that there's a fair segment of the western market that don't identify with the dysmorphia of looking like an early twenties twink.

While I'm sorry for Viera and Hrothgar for not having new hair options, I'd like to also point out the sheer volume of Gpose and everything else being vastly female cat or bunny girl as still being versatile and greater in appearance offering.

I acknowledge that Lala's are the superior destructive force in the galaxy. But no, I am not rolling a F*****g baby.

Maybe this is only an issue with Final Fantasy. Cuz I've played other japanese games in the fantasy/folklore genre that had dudes with beards. Prime example being my favorite of all time Dragon's Dogma.

There's actually quite a few characters in Final Fantasy games that have facial hair. It really just appears to be some strange hang-up that FFXIV, in particular, seems to have.

I wouldn't outright say they're against masculine figures because ...*looks at Barret and Gladio*... but at the same time it's been left clear for ages that JP simply prefers bishonen aesthetics over macho men, who are more often than not comical relief meatheads at best and villain minions at worst - Male Roegadyn are a prime example of both those tropes.

I mean, just look how daddy Highlanders could look if they actually tried.

We absolutely need more beard and way more other customization options! So many people want a wide customization for their character, I don't know why hasn't the FFXIV team made that happen by now.

I don't play male toons, but 100 percent support the inclusion of real beards.
