Damn..We had a talk with Yoshida about this, and he let us know that the three city-states won't be completely redesigned from the ground up after the launch of 2.0. However, areas that caused a lot of frustration or weren't very convenient might have some changes made to them.
While i appreciate everything else in 2.0, I have to say this is rather disappointing. If anything, what's kept a lot of players (myself included) interested is the complete redesign of the bland world of xiv. Certainly, the cities need one too; seeing as a huge amount of time is spent in the cities if not the majority of time for some players. The changes to the world as per pdf look really attractive, why can't that be extended to the cities? Surely everyone will be pleased to such a change. There's already a complete overhaul being done to the whole world, i don't see why the cities were excluded. The cities could really use a whole lot more creativity and life. Just looking at the new 2.0 world vs the old cities, i see a major discrepancy..
Petition time..? ;;
Seriously? You can't honestly want a petition for this without even knowing to what degree the tweaks will happen. We don't know if the "tweaks" will include making the cities more lively, or what changes are going to be made. The city shapes might stay more or less the same but new animations, new areas might be created. The textures and looks might change. The music might change. There are hundreds of things they could do to the cities that entail "Not completely rebuilding from the ground up."
Everyone needs to relax and wait to see what they have in store. If, when they release some info on the changes being made, the cities are shown as being exactly the same, as if someone just pulled them out of the game and placed them back in to the new maps creating some sort of anachronistic nightmare, then feel free to start making petitions. Until then, chill. We have no idea what they have in store for the cities.

Or the waterfalls that come out of solid rock and flow into little pools that go nowhere. You'd think they'd overflow rather quickly, turning those pathways into small streams.
That is an eyesore to me every time I run through Gridania and see it because it's such an obvious flaw.

But we do know for sure that they won't be doing a complete redesign from the ground up. Yoshi said so himself, per Rukkirri's post.Seriously? We do know that they *might* (Rukkirri's/Yoshi's word, not mine) make changes to some locations that are inconvenient or frustrating. Not only is that a vague comment to begin with, but using the word "might" means we can't even depend on some changes being made at all, even if they really should/could be.
Based on Yoshi's statements, per Rukkirri's post, it's safe to say that SE won't be doing as much as people hoped they would.
First of all, i'm glad you came to your senses and removed personal attacks (as per your editing comment) simply because you have a different opinion to me and have different interests.
In reply to your quoted comment above:
That to me sounds clear enough with emphasis on the bold and underline. We had a talk with Yoshida about this, and he let us know that the three city-states won't be completely redesigned from the ground up after the launch of 2.0. I won't rule out the possibility of it being decent with some tweaks here and there. The point here however was more of a redesign than just simple tweaks here and there. In the end, neither one of us knows how it will turn out but what we do know is whatever info they do give us, and judging from the rep's comment, it just simply doesn't hold up to the 2.0 standards many have come to expect. I certainly don't speak for all, i can see some people ok with this, however i as well as many others have already expressed our disappointment.Everyone needs to relax and wait to see what they have in store. The other point is why wait until it's a tad bit too late when they are currently working on a complete overhaul of the world? Isn't this the right time to speak up and express our concerns? What is it with this attitude of just keep shut and let them do their work. Yoshi has on more instances than i can count kept asking for our feedback, be it positive or negative. Let people raise their voices already and to each their own.
You may be right and it may impress, if so, let this message be heard to the devs, and just maybe they will rest our minds with some detailed concept art. But until then, i say expect more messages like this.

I'm sort of hoping by 'won't be completely redesigned from the ground up' just means they'll use the same objects/textures/npcs/etc and just change the layout of the city.
I don't mind Ul'dah that much, but I guess that's because compared to Grid it's amazing :P Limsa Lominsa looks amazing, but it's horrible to navigate around (especially when you're new to the game).
I think everyone is reading too much into Rukkirii's post.
Re-using assets, framing foundations of old buildings in ruins...re-using trees, landscape pieces...removing redundancy...making locations more meaningful.
It's not a here's a blank slate let's remake it...it's a we have assets we've created how do we best use it and expand and creating a more dynamic and amazing city. We've seen the sketches...I'm hoping Gridania gets carved into an old growth forest feel...and the city spirals up roots into giant tree canopies on top...it's a shame to have a wooded city only be on one level.
The post is a bit vague but it sounds like they will be tweaking around the edges rather than adding essential stuff to the cities.I think everyone is reading too much into Rukkirii's post.

Changing a path and adding a stairway here and there falls short of what needs to be done to make the cities seem alive and interesting.
TBH, I never has a probelm with any of the City-states.. they were like the only things that seemed "Alive" :P.
