I think its better to do major changes to the 3 cities, to make them look different than before .
Loved em in ffxi, they were lively .

I am Payadopa and I approve this. That's a shame, I thought "all maps will be rebuilt" meant... well... all maps
If the cities are receiving only minor changes, I hope they will at least do the following:
Add NPC residential housing/districts to each city. Currently, the cities are 50% commercial, 30% Military and Government, and 20% industrial. Do people live in these cities? FFXI players will recall starting cities that had multiple housing districts -- with specific racial or economic class themes. There were also quests where you had to visit residents and learn about their lives, etc. This is a popular request, because players know that NPC housing will breath some life to our sterile cities.
Create actual buildings for the GC headquarters..As significant as these places are, they should be housed in real buildings rather than another menu option at the market wards.
Revamp the layout of Gridania - With trees large enough to support buildings, why is the entire city built into cracks in the ground? Gridania should be much more vertical and lofty - (Perhaps there is a good reason for it, but I haven't seen it in the storyline). We need more Eruyt Village and less Yhoator Jungle in Gridania's layout.
Create Market Ward structures - Granted, it would still require zoning to enter.. but one of the most popular destinations in the city should have more than a simple gate/hole in the cliff/alleyway as it's representation.
Upgrade guilds and create space for new ones - The Conjurer and Black Mage guilds need to be updated along with the confusing and obsolete lore surrounding the classes. In addition, it would be nice to see buildings or pathways that will open up for future guilds.![]()
The cities do need some redesigning. They lack even NPC housing, seems everyone lives on the streets or their work buildings. In other games you can see what is NPC housing and go in and look around and even get quests from NPC's residing in there.
I would also love the GC's to have their own buildings to enter like the different city representatives in FFXI (yes I said it :P) I like the cities as they are but they do need some additions ^^ Going to the Market Ward area for everything is boring but I'm sure right now they have no choice but to do that.
I wouldn't mind seeing some more of dat ass in Gridana. I agree though, I'd rather see them build above the woods, however the lore is pretty fitting. Just less long corridors would be nice, honestly.Revamp the layout of Gridania[/B] - With trees large enough to support buildings, why is the entire city built into cracks in the ground? Given the performance issues they seem to have with Ul'dah I would think you will see them split the cities into multiple zones. There will have to be at lease some design changes if they do that.Looking at the 2.0 documents, the redesigned maps look great. Well at least the artwork does, we will see once E3 comes i guess.
What about the Cities tho'? Will they redesign them too? I can't seem to find anything mentioning the cities, cuz they do need a lift up too!
...and...what if SE were to make the distance traveled between each city-state the same...of course with varying terrain and mobs...this way no one city becomes the hub of all activity...maybe even adjust the leves and quest involved so they all get an equal share of outstanding and not so outstanding rewards...We had a talk with Yoshida about this, and he let us know that the three city-states won't be completely redesigned from the ground up after the launch of 2.0. However, areas that caused a lot of frustration or weren't very convenient might have some changes made to them.
You mean how it pretty much is now distance-wise? The main issue is that the main scenario leads you to Ul'dah and pretty much leaves you there. Ul'dah stays at Ul'dah, Limsa goes to Ul'dah, Grid goes to Ul'dah. Everybody is in Ul'dah, and it really doesn't direct you elsewhere without looping back to... you guessed it!
