Now I can only hope that they cancel that LOTR series as well. When asked what they wanted it to be they said "Give us Game of Thrones"...so that's basically what it's going to be, most likely. Forever salty about how THAT one turned out.
Speaking for TV series ... what happened to the supposed FFXIV Netflix show? Last I heard the script was finished and they were looking for a director and working on concept art.
Probably stuck in development hell due to the pandemic, also, I thought it was Sony bankrolling that one not Netflix (please correct me if that's wrong though!).
I wasn't going to play it, though less competition is a bad thing since the genre really needs some solid competition to keep things fresh and engaging.
It's just MMORPGs just don't get made anymore. It really sucks. We have to deal with the same 'ol for another decade. Like don't get me wrong, FFXIV is good, but the genre really needed something else. To liven it up. I mean, other than Korean and the occasional Chinese dev, these games just don't get made anymore, and those countries make them as cash grabs, 'pay 2 win', rather than good games. FFXIV may go for another 10 years, but I just wonder if there will be enough innovation added to keep it good, and not stagnant, for the next decade.
Western publishers/devs just don't want to invest in anything other than live service, or games where they can throw microtransaction after microtransaction at you anymore; low cost, high reward. It's sad. I don't trust indie studios to make a great product either, they simply don't have the capital. Heck, most of them are scams anyway.

MANTASTIC: I got 1017 problems, but playing FFXIV ain't one.
Llyren: Lala Tanks hit point density levels attract small planets
Nah, there was (is?) a live action series about Cid Garlond being planned.

I was hoping for this to happen and be good just so that I don't have to try LOTRO. There are some things about LOTRO that might appeal to me, but there are also things that make me not want to even try it.
If Amazon ever decides to make an MMORPG based on an existing franchise and it's not based on LOTR, I hope for Star Wars or Conan.
I decided to quit SWTOR since I just don't play it enough in between story patches (though I loved doing the story quests so far) and I never got through the AoC starting zone even after trying it a few times and Funcom has terrible support for free players in my experience.
So a new MMORPG based on either of those two franchises by a company like Amazon would be interesting assuming there is a high focus on PVE.
