Who killed the Gold Saucer and actually got Paid?

As a long time player, yes off and on for years, I can remember the Gates that had once been part of the Gold Saucer. I keep hoping someone will FIX the Gold Saucer, but year after year it does not happen.

Going minimalistic does not fix an area or make it better. There is no life here anymore, no joy in visiting and participating in the events. Oh, I mean event. Yes, I am pointing at Leap of Faith.

The Gates rotate in favor of Leap. Love it or Hate it, Leap of Faith comes up far too often. 90% of the time, your going to have to see that little Cactuar.
Anyway the wind Blows is hardly ever seen along with Cliffhanger. We might get Air Force one from time to time.

While some people like Mario jumping antics, some of us, if not a majority would like variety. Bring back the old games or update them and bring them back and lessen the times Leap shows its gaudy painted face.

If someone does not brave making changes to this area, you might as well blow up the Casino in some event, because it is that dead and lack luster at this point. People show up for the lottery. You have a few racing Chocobo and I do mean a few.

Others come to mind numbingly take the Leap, trying to get the mounts here at the Casino.

There were 3 Gates wich have been removed over time when they added new ones.

"Time of my Life" was a Dance competition, well more an emote competition, where you had to watch an NPC doing emotes and you had to repeat the emotes the NPC did, just from watching the animation.

"Vase Off" was a Gate where you had to deliver some expensive vases to 3 NPC in the Gold Saucer, but robbers were running around so you had to dodge them.

"Skinchange" was a Gate where you had to watch an NPC cloesely and then find a perfect double of that NPC between a dozen other similar looking NPCs. The differences were only small like an earring or different shoes.

Honestly Vase off and especially Skinchange sucked. But I muss Time of my Life.

However, Leap of Faith comes up waay too often and with Cliffhanger there are even 2 more jumping-Gates and it's just boring.

Leap of Faith and Air Force One (and The Slice is Right) are relatively new. They replaced Vase Off, Skingchange We Can Believe In, and Time of Your Life, all of which were non-instanced and took place in the main building. Over the years they were phased out in favor of Leap, AF1, and Slice, with those all having a much higher priority in the rotation. Which is why Any Way the Wind Blow, and especially Cliffhanger are so rare these days.

I kinda wish they'd put Cliffhanger up more with the others up now. It's quick and easy.
People hated Vase Off but.... I thought it was easy?
Skinchange can stay dead though.

They were all really easy, even Skinchange. Skinchange was very predictable. Weapon, boots, accessories, hair/facial markings, and one or two other things. Most of the time it was simple matter of taking a quick glance at the NPC and spending 20 seconds running around to find the only one with a matching beard.

Can't believe I never experienced Vase Off! Honestly, I like any of them I can do while still queued in DF.

What happened is, when they added a new GATE (or make a significant update), they update the schedule so the new thing shows up more often. I like this, and I respect that choice, but it goes on for too long. I think we should have had this schedule for like... maybe one major patch tops. After that they really should rounded out the schedule a bit more. I am not sure if their internal numbers are used to say "We should keep having Leap of Faith most of the time", but this is going too far. Personally I like Cliffhanger more, and I'd do more Air Force One if we could run it in queue or while in a party.

I don't like The Slice Is Right because of the stop phase and I don't like Any Way The Wind Blows because it feels like knowing the statistically best place to stand takes out a lot of the fun for it, but really you could fix those up real easy and I'd want to play them more.

Personally I really like Slice but I agree that the cup game is terrible design. Why put a single point of RNG two third of the way though an otherwise a completely skill based game? It's just bad.

SE has been trying to change the GATEs to meet player feedback. If they're adding more of a certain type of GATE and removing others, it's because they're seeing a difference in participation.

Personally I enjoyed Vase Off and trying to avoid the NPCs but you really wouldn't see that many players participating. Skin Change was meh and again, not many would participate. Time of Your Life was popular but it wasn't designed to accommodate an increasing number of playable races so they probably felt it needed to go.

Any Way is still popular for the stage event but I rarely see more than a dozen players showing up for Slice is Right.

Leap of Faith, on the other hand, is always packed the rare occasions I bother to do it.

GATEs used to take place solely within the Gold Saucer. Leap of Faith and Air Force One have changed that by being instanced outside of the Gold Saucer (even if Air Force One uses a Gold Saucer mockup).

That makes Gold Saucer appear less active because more players doing Gold Saucer activities are not even in the Gold Saucer.
