In addition to balancing out the zones, SE would be wise to implement a force quit mechanism of roughly an hour. There is no reason why AFK people should be standing in Ul'Dah if this is causing game breaking/interfering issues. They aren't serving any purpose AFKing except apparently taking up valuable memory/resources for the server.

I hate that sort of system personnaly, I remember in STO when they used that feature along with on demand patching in loading screens, people were patching zones slow and getting kicked because of it.

There is no need for this system if the devs do not try to overcrowd servers, Oh I need to run to the shop, come back dc'd, Oh I need to get a drink, smoke and wc, dc, constant dcs are a pain.

The problem is that people are crowding Ul'dah A-zone, there is plenty of room if we spread out, so that is thier priority rather than annoy us all with the constant kicks.

I hardly see how being kicked if you're inactive for an hour can be considered "constant". How much time do you need for a drink, smoke and bathroom break?

If you're not playing for at least an hour, I'd say it's absolutely fair that your "bandwidth" be freed up so others can have a smoother experience. Just log back in when you return. It takes a couple minutes.

Hell, some games will kick you back to character select after 20 minutes.

This is what needs to get across.

Also I've been waiting since May 1st (yeah I know that's not very long compared to when the ban was created) to join Durandal, and this is getting a bit rediculous. Especially since the welcome back campaign is coming and everything. HEY LETS LET PEOPLE COME BACK BUT THEY CANT PLAY WITH THEIR FRIENDS LAWL

It's going to remind me a lot of HEY YOU CAN CHANGE SERVER SINCE WE'RE DOING MERGES. But only if you're quick enough.... LAWLZZZ.

I think one hour is too short, but I agree with you. A lot of people just AFK all night posing alongside their LS mates. I wouldn't mind if it didn't cause server problems, but apparently it does. According to Yoshida, this saturation problem will be a lot more manageable with the 2.0 servers, so they could even make it a temporary measure. Those people are indeed serving no purpose, they're just interfering with the server's capacity.

Perhaps a compromise?: Just display the NamePlates of AFK characters. Do not render the bodies until they move or reset their Status.
