Can't Place/Store Furniture in Apartment (PS4)

Finally bought myself an apartment in Lily Hills this morning, mostly because furniture was taking up inventory space, and it might as well be sitting in an apartment. Went into my apartment, opened the Housing menu, selected Indoor Furnishings. The indoor furnishings window and my inventory popped up. So far so good, but none of the furnishings in my inventory have the place or store subcommands. They just have the usual desynth, discard, etc subcommands you normally see when you click on inventory items.

Thinking maybe something was just weird with the old furniture, I bought a bed from the vendor in the lobby. Still can’t place or store it. Then I tried crafting a piece of furniture. Nope, can’t place it either. Went to YouTube and watched a video of someone decorating, and it looks like the steps I took should have lead to me being able to place furniture. I am now just extremely frustrated and feeling like I threw away a half million Gil on a room I can’t decorate.

So ... is there some step I’ve missed? Is there a setting somewhere I’ve accidentally turned off or on that would keep me from being able to place furniture in my apartment? I’m on PS4, so does it only work with a mouse and keyboard? I tried the virtual mouse, and it made no difference. Still no option to place or store anything.

You probably need to open the Indoor Decorations menu under Housing.

I believe it is Social > Housing > Indoor Decoration.

Without these tools switced on, you cannot use furniture as furniture, it just becomes desynth fodder. I don't think any of the tutorials show that step, they all just gloss over it.

That’s what I’ve been doing. Social - Housing - Indoor Furnishings. When I click that, my inventory opens on one side of the screen, with a blue bar over it labeled Layout and says to "select furnishing to place" and on the other side of the screen the indoor furnishings window opens that would show the list of things that have been placed or are in storage. Selecting any indoor furnishing in my inventory though only brings up the usual inventory subcommands menu with no mention of "place" or "store".

It’s not through the submenu. You need to drag and place the furnishing onto floor/walls after you have indoor decoration windows up.
