Borderless Windowed mode caps framerate despite no limits in place anywhere on system

So I run the game in borderless windowed mode, and usually it runs fine and all is well. However, ever since patch 5.5, borderless windowed mode is arbitrarily capping my frame rate to 55fps. I have a dual monitor setup, both monitors are the same exact model (Asus PG278QR.) Both are set to the same refresh rate of 165hz in windows settings and in nvdia control panel settings, so it's not the issue of the window being limited by desktop refresh rates. No other game has this issue. I do not have any frame limits in-game, in the nvdia control panel, or in any other 3rd party tuners. I have double and triple checked that. Yes my GPU can handle high refresh rates with no issues. (1080ti)

Running the game in full screen does not have the frame rate cap. Disabling my second monitor using windows key + p, booting the game, then re-enabling it with the game already running prevents the cap from happening on launch, and borderless windowed mode runs normally. Once the second monitor is enabled again though, the refresh rate on it seems terrible unless I focus the monitor, game frame rate seems fine though. I don't want to have to disconnect and reconnect my 2nd monitor every time I run this game, It's extremely annoying.

Yes my graphics drivers have been updated with full clean installs using DDU. Yes I've fully clean-reinstalled the game itself as well.

I will mention I have had this issue once before, but it randomly went away one day so I stopping trying to troubleshoot it. This happened after patch 5.4 dropped, so similar scenario.

Another bizarre thing to note about this issue is that the frame rate is only capped while the game is focused. You heard me correctly, as in, the frame rate tanks when the game is in the foreground, but when I tab out to move to my other monitor, the frame rate skyrockets into the 300s. As soon as I click on the game again, it caps itself back down to 55. In my google searches I have come across others sharing this issue with this game in the past so I know it's not just me, but unfortunately found no solution other than running the game full screen which isn't an option for me. The common denominator seems to be borderless windowed mode combined with a second monitor.

What about the setting to reduce framerate when inactive or in backgrpund

Sounds like that because you said when you focus the monitor its fine.

if thats enabled the framerate will drop when you do something on another monitir

Okay nice screenshot, appreciate the attempt to assist, but I already stated this in the op:

I know about that setting, I specified in my post no in-game limiters are active. Besides, it's the opposite problem that this setting would cause. If you read again you'll see that I said the frame rate is reduced when the game is focused, NOT in the background.

Sorry your second paragraph confused me seems to contradict the last when ypu say "Once the second monitor is enabled again though, the refresh rate on it seems terrible unless I focus the monitor"

Sorry, I guess the wording could be better(?), not sure in what way, but I did specify that the game's frame rate was fine in the same sentence. That bit has nothing to do with the final paragraph anyway, I was just mentioning another issue that crops up when when I use the workaround I found. (Disabling 2nd monitor, booting game, then re-enabling 2nd monitor with the game running.) While the framerate in game window is fixed when doing this, the frame rate on the 2nd monitor is really bad unless I tab out of the game and focus it. It's pretty weird, and not an issue I had before 5.5.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Is there a private way of sending this information? After reading everything included in this report, I don't want to post that on a very public forum. If that's not possible, just close this thread instead. Thank you.

I also run dual monitor, have never had this issue but they are only 60Hz and we know XIV has issues with high refresh rates. Anyways, just theory crafting I feel like XIV has mixed up the primary display settings. I tried to reproduce your issue by changing the primary display in both the Windows control panel, the game settings, and the nVidia one. No bueno, no matter what XIV launched and ran correctly on the selected display. They also all agree which is Primary. Maybe check and see if there is any discrepancy there on your system? Just a little thought, hope it helps or at least points in a useful direction!

Mine was capped at 71fps when set to 144hz

I have just set it to none and its gone to 160 standing in a corner looking at the wall.
    I hope this helps.

Edit - Also running dual monitors
