I don't see many people doing Fates after level 50

Not exactly sure why. I did notice that I couldn't solo them after 50 (on a dps toon), despite being decently geared, although I admit I stopped even trying. Obviously, there was nobody else doing them or I would have joined them.

I suspect that the problem is that they were designed to be group content, but there are better things for groups to do, which is cool.

However, it seems a waste of content, seeing so many post-50 maps without any progress made on them.

I'm guessing that the rewards for doing them just aren't sufficient compared to other things that level 50-60 toons could be doing, which is cool.

But it'd be nice if the rewards were sufficient to make them worthwhile.

You should be able to solo most fates, esp with your chocobo companion throwing you heals and adding to your overall dps. Very few are designed as group content. Mostly its the single boss fates that are best for groups and even then most can still be solo'd. You do need to be spatially aware in some of them so you are not overwhelmed by groups. If you go face first into a group of mobs, you are going to be eaten alive if some cases.

But fates are such bad content that they had to bribe us to do them in shadowbringers by locking items and mount speed behind doing them. So instead of redesigning and improving on or just flat out scraping one of the most notoriously boring, overused and hated systems in the game, like they should have, they doubled down and decided to force us to do them instead. And then to add insult to injury they force us to do 60 or them, per zone and then put even more rewards behind capping all zones. All while keeping our limit to the currency so low that you need to constantly spend it or lose it. And then what do they do. Since we have no need to do them at lvl cap, they made them one of the major components to all relic quest lines instead of being a little more innovative. A system like campaign, from FFXI, would be much better than just more of the same 5 fates we have been doing since 2013.

There's not really much great reason to do them purely for exp. Early on, they might be sorta ok as a bit of a distraction/deviation from quest to quest. But the further you get in the game, the more there is available to do, and FATEs are often simply lowest priority and get ignored for all the other things that are more rewarding. Ultimately they really only end up getting done when they're connected to something else you're doing.

As for running solo, FATEs scale to the number of players running them. If you found a FATE too tough or overwhelming, there's a chance some group somewhere around had already been clearing things. Or possibly you're just undergeared...
But, except for the achievement FATEs, they should generally be solo-able. Boss FATEs can be a bit tough on dps, tho. I've found hitting those with a tank job makes them much easier.

That's exactly my point, as a former Rift player.

That's money left on the table, or should be, from the devs viewpoint. The original devs spent a lot of resources making the fates, but the current crop of devs seem to be more interested in making new content that surpasses the original, which is easy enough for them to do, simply by rewarding their new stuff more than the old stuff.

If they really cared about the game as a whole, they'd update the rewards for Fates, somewhere between solo questing and duty roulettes.

they've already put plenty of rewards behind fates, tbh. they don't really need more. I honestly hope they don't continue this trend next expac.

I do them if I'm like 500k away from leveling and can level in 1 or 2 FATEs

There are still players doing FATEs even if you don't see the large FATE farming groups that ARR and early part of HW had.

Players did ask for additional ways to gain XP for leveling alt jobs and so FATE participation naturally fell off as many switched to the other content. FATE XP is usually better than side quest XP and both take about the same amount of time to complete. The difference is FATEs require more focused effort during that time so most players opt for the lazy route when trying to choose between the two. If you were to calculate the XP earned for an hour of FATE grinding, it's fairly large.

There's also no cap on FATEs. Got your roulettes and beast tribe quests done for the day? Already completed all the side quests while leveling other jobs? Here are some FATEs if you want to continue grinding XP for the day.

I still see players doing FATEs in ShB zones for the gemstones if not the XP. Some of those gemstone items are still selling for fairly big amounts of gil on the MBs in my data center.

I also imagine the development cost for FATEs is lower than you make it sound. They're generally reusing creature assets (Just giving the creatures a different name) and there's zero cost for environment assets since they're utilizing what already exists for other purposes.

My biggest complaint would be the gap that happens when FATE farming and you've cleared all the FATEs in a zone so you're stuck waiting for 2-3 minutes for a new FATE to spawn. To me, it would make more sense to always have at least 2 FATEs active on a map at the same time so the player always has a new one to go to.

sadly the fates simply aren't worth it add in the fact every single fate boss is immune to the gimmick of bluemage its a colossal waste of time i'm currently doing my resistance 18/18 memories and not only is the drop rate low but most of the time the fate is some kind of boss fate and its just Zzzzz :P

also it might be a omega problem but i rarely see anyone in this zones doing fates as it is
