I think it's important to remember that the reason why we've gotten all these short hairstyles is because they were the winners of the cursed player-voted contest from 5 years ago. That and some colab stuff like the new Nier raid hairs. Every long hair we've gotten has been the devs trying to give players something in spite of that contest because they know they're releasing a lot of short hair.

We're finally free from the shadow of that contest and the mid long mined upcoming style already looks more interesting than most of the hairstyles post "form-n-function".

All the long styles would stick out like a board

They already do with clothing collision at the neck and shoulder area. It's the one reason why I don't run with a long style, it's just... bad to look at. I find myself focusing on that so much when I try to play, I literally get disgusted and have to go change hairstyles.
