The new 4K UI Setting that you can toggle on or off, has nothing to do with the new font for character names, npcs, targetable objects etc.
There is also no toggle for this font change, you can only currently "fix" this by reverting to DX9. Which I feel is unnecessary for something so simple as this.
I'm not downplaying it's importance though, you literally have to look at the font all the time during play. And while my eyes have adjusted to it a bit better now, there are clear times where it just looks plain ugly and flickers/distorts when moving closer or further away from an object. Also the readability can become poor depending on the colour of the text vs. a light background.
Just got on for the first time since patch day and I agree with others that the new font looks awful. I get for some that there is no issue, they like it, or have adjusted to it but there really should be an option to change between the new font and the old.
On 1440, it looks the same....until I compare to an old screenshot. New font is thinner and crisper, doing some pixel peeping on a fresh screenshot it still has the black outline. I like it. Maybe it's just shite on 1080?
Don't touch me there
Maybe like SE's healer job problems the new font just doesn't scale well. HEYOOOO!
MANTASTIC: I got 1017 problems, but playing FFXIV ain't one.
Llyren: Lala Tanks hit point density levels attract small planets
I prefer the look of the old font but my main issue is when you're in a crowded area or just somewhere with several overlapping names. It was much easier for me to read or understand enough of a name to know who and what was going on. New font just creates a massive jumbled mess to me.
the font is less bold on the outline because it's higher resolution, even I made it 150% UI scale - it's a bit too big. I just wish to have it bold and small not skinny font.
