I skipped all discussion relating other games like Drakengard because they have nothing to do with FFXIV and I have absolutely no interest in them. The thought that I need to play 10 other games to understand what is going on in an alliance raid is unacceptable to me.
Frankly having played Nier and Automata and having a passing understanding of drakengard, the plot of the raid series doesn't really make any more sense if you played them. You just pick up on more surface level references.
