I've heard the CPU is a much bigger bottleneck for XIV then a GPU in terms of maintaining consistent 60 FPS and even then you're only likely to lose frames in areas with high player traffic unless you have a really weak CPU/GPU combo.

You need both, but CPU really only comes into play in towns/fate/hunts/ areas with lots of people basically. Instances, it'll be GPU mostly. But again, depends on framerate you are targeting and the resolution you play at.

I locked my game to 60 fps, and I get that solid in towns with no dips, same in heavy traffic areas. But I just upgraded over the winter to 5800x and 3080, so....

Can I hijack this thread to ask what would be a recommended upgrade from my current 8GB RX 580 and AMD Ryzen 5 2600x that could be compatible with a B450M? I have a hard time figuring out the best way to search for trustworthy hardware upgrade recommendations, specially if I'm not trying to have an end-of-the-line PC spec.

My biggest problem with the RX 580 I have is that it gets loud as hell when I'm playing FFXIV. But I guess any newer gpu will have the same problem because they get really hot.

I'd like to be able to run the game above 1080p and for Limsa not to make my FPS below 30

I'm currently running an RTX 2060 EVO Edition with a Ryzen7 3700X on a B550 Tomahawk with 32 gigs of Vengeance RAM. I have all my games on an M.2 Drive. I'm able to play it on maxed out settings with fps somewhere between 90-120/130 depending on whether or not I'm in Limsa or not. LOL! Alliance Raids and big FATES and whatnot are usually 100+ fps. With the game on the M.2 drive there are no load times. I use an ultra widescreen monitor and I think my resolution is like 2560x1440 or something like that. I'm at work so can't look it up.

Having said that, I originally upgraded it to that level for Cyberpunk, but for playing FF XIV my 1660 Ti and Ryzen 7 with my games on a regular hard drive would play it 100+ fps except for in heavy areas it may drop down to 40-50 fps with maxed out settings. It even played fine at maxed settings on my old 1060Ti and a Ryzen 5 though Limsa would slog it down from time to time.

How much of a graphical upgrade is FF getting with Endwalker? I heard the faster loading times and server speed up stuff and maybe some small graphics tweaks but nothing that would require someone to upgrade their system for.

Best bet right now is to buy a prebuilt with the GPU you want. Newer CPUs like Ryzen 5000 series or Intel 11th gen will help too since they have huge IPC increase and 14 loves its cpu performance.

You'd have to look to see if you can update the bios to use ryzen 5000 on yours, if not maybe a 3700x 8-core would be a decent upgrade. If your RX 580 is a blower card not much you can do, maybe increase case airflow so you have more cool air so the fan can run slower.

Another RTX3080 user here. Id say with FFXIV's current demanded you are in perfect range for 1080p. Even with what I have now it doesnt make much of a difference past 60-90 fps range, it all looks the same and feels the same. I currently play on 1440p and get around 150-200fps and notice no difference than when i played on my previous 1060.

Its all about the future proofing in todays rigs and right now isnt a good time to buy. Hold what you got but i hope you get something you enjoy in the future!

Agree. If i buy a VC right now it will not be future proof since my MB and CPU is on its last leg and too expensive right now because of the mentioned supply issues. Might as well build a good one from scratch in the future.
