*unhinged eldritch horror noises*

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
Perhaps it's even a happiness beyond our limited understanding of happiness!

It was a cold, dark happiness. Elder to the eldest stars beyond the veil of humanity's furthest reaching probes. A happiness that reverberated throughout existence, curdling oceans and shattering mountaintops on a thousand, thousand desolate worlds. It was a happiness that curled up the tendrils of the eldest beings, worming its way through the atrament betwixt the stars. The pace it had would one day reach our watery orb, but perhaps only after life had ended here, and yet, it would still enliven every feculent speck of dust from the leftovers of our civilization.
Eons later, when one of a long procession of alien boots touched down into what used to be the bed of our deepest ocean, wondering if this world would again hold water and life before being engulfed by its sun, they would feel the love that permeates it from this elder happiness. The Joy of the universe itself.
