Sure, bet. I'll pass my flu onto you guys. About halfway through my shift my BM calls me. Turns out my mom fell while I was at work and she had called him to get ahold of me. Me living 5 minutes away from work I scrambled home, half-panicking that she fell and broke her hip.

No, instead she had fallen and at first we thought she completely dislocated her knee, judging by the lack of pain she was having. She had just gotten out of the shower when she heard the phone ring, and thought it was me. So she made a mad dash to the phone in her bedroom right out of the bathroom.

Unfortunately years ago she had nearly all of the flooring in the house replaced, from cushioned carpet to vinyl flooring that was directly on top of concrete.

We get an ambulance over, I got her the necessary things (cell phone, ID, insurance cards) they loaded her up and I locked up the house before returning to work, thinking she'd be fine. Not...really fine. About an hour later she calls me and tells me she had broken her kneecap right down the middle. She didn't exactly tell me how. It wasn't until after she got out of surgery she told me that she had completely split her kneecap in half, meaning one half was pushed into her lower thigh, the other half was in her upper shin. She had also fractured her shoulder while bracing her fall.

Since getting out of the hospital (she refused to stay the night, I don't blame her since that hospital does suck), she's been in a leg immobilizer and while she's allowed to put weight on it, she's been slowly waddling around the house via wall/furniture surfing. I feel tremendously bad that, had I not decided to let myself get talked back into going to work earlier than expected, she'd not be waddling around with a broken knee.

Upside is that I now have 6 weeks off for FMLA reasons to help care for her. It goes right through Mother's Day and graduation season for my work, so I get to miss out on those for work.
Oh wow! That really sucks and I'm sorry your Mom was so badly hurt. May she have a quick ((and uneventful)) recovery.
