Sadly it's very true. S/V clothing choices suck. You get three or four slightly different uniforms, and that's it for body gear. Lots of very samey shoes and bags, some ugly helmets.I was super disappointed by Sword, and I've seen the Scarlet/Violet mess, but I kept hearing Arceus was the good one that was actually trying something different and fun, and it's true. And then you have small stuff like having an unlimited pool of moves you can mix and match is actually huge for the RPG part of the game, and character customization is actually competent this time around. There's a bunch of cool Japanese-styled costumes instead of 5 shirts, 5 dresses and 5 shoes. I heard you're confined to the school uniform in Scarlet/Violet, and that there aren't even skirts in the game, though I don't know how true or not that is.

It's incomprehensible with all the accessories and all the color options, you can have such a variety of backpacks and shoes and sparkly tights and a Daft Punk helmet, but you can only wear all that with the one color school uniform. Almost nothing matches, what was even the point?
I really enjoyed S/V but that was extreamly dissapointing, a big step backwards in customization. Like sure, have our characters be in uniform at the school but out in the world we should have been able to do what we wanted. Had hoped the DLC may change this but no hints on that front it seems.
