Most horror games I've seen either pile on so much gore that it stops being horrific and becomes almost comical, or they're so dark and overly shadowed that I can't see what I'm supposed to be afraid of in the first place. Or they rely too much on jump scares, which also gets old.

Pretty much this. Not a fan of Dead Space for that reason. Resident Evil, I'm fine with everything up to RE4. RE5 was...bleh. RE6 I really only liked Leon's side of the game. RE7 was a gigantic no from me, RE8 was the same. Though Silent Hill 2 is my personal favorite among horror games, but that's because it goes full psychological horror on you.

EDIT: On another note, you guys notice how suddenly a bunch of people came back outta nowhere on the forums? I went from seeing maybe 1 person on ignore every few days to suddenly seeing 7-8 people I had on ignore appearing again at the same time.

As for me, if Capcom ever made an action RE where you play as unarmed Wesker beating monster to death, it'd be the first and last game i ever preorder.

Speaking of Capcom, Street Fighter 6 is just around the corner and it's time my 9 year old nephew play against some of my friends, some that are tournament players too.

I need to find me a good fast-paced action game to play for a change. Something like, I dunno, the PS2-era God of War games. Not quite as button mashy as a Dynasty Warriors but not as slow and deliberate as a Soulslike.

Oh no I LOVE horror movies. I grew up on Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. It was family night any time Tales from the Crypt came on when I was a child. Spiders just creep me the hell out. Seriously who was the dunce who thought marketing the Arachnophobia movie as a COMEDY was a bright idea? Straight up the most horror of horror movies.

Well, i just loaded PS2 emulator today to replay Altered Beast. The transformations are awesome (not for the faint of heart). I'm not going to recommend it though, since the combat is pretty terrible. Then again it's par for the course for many old games.

I couldn't watch it, just the first 30 minutes messed me up for life. Now, something like eight legged freaks? That was freaky but funny.

Me too, although mine was the arcade version. They're nothing alike (other than dude turning into werecreatures) since they replaced magic and evil wizards with science and failed experiments.
