The only tool I'd say you really need to get started is a decent nipper for cutting parts off the runners. Maybe a file to help clean it up. A basic tool set like this one will do just fine. (You can probably find that one a bit cheaper elsewhere, I'm just using the link as an example.)
As for kits to start with, the Entry Grade line is designed for first-timers; they're quick builds with good color separation and surprisingly articulation for being so cheap. (At least, the EG Gundam kits; the other Entry Grades, like the DBZ kits, are statues.) If you're in the US, you can probably find one at Target. Most High Grade kits and the 30 Minute Missions line are also fine for beginners.
Oh Hey we use to sell that exact kit in our store. Once we sold the last one we just kinda stopped cause people don't really come to our store for model kit tools. The only tool I'd say you really need to get started is a decent nipper for cutting parts off the runners. When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.
Fluid like water. Smooth like silk. Pepperoni like pizza.
As threatened, I took some pics. Here ya go.
That is amazing! I love seeing people have a good hobby and take care of their stuff. Your collection is quite impressive. As threatened, I took some pics. Here ya go.

Whoa! That's a lot! (I collect BJDs but I've always kept a small collection for space concerns...and price of course)
I see you really like R.A. Salvatore.
The Drizzt series has its ups and downs, but it's kinda become literary comfort food.
I've got a few on my shelf but I've honestly never read them. (I know I know....mea culpa; I write fantasy as a hobby; I have my own full world I am developing and I've never read the Drizzt series. ) He's a dark elf too isn't he? All my Ciardi (dark elves) and Solundi (light elves) are bowing their heads in shame right now I'm sure.
I could never have that much displayed on one shelf with my cat...As threatened, I took some pics. Here ya go.
Edit: Also my coworkers just convinced me to buy a lego set D:

For those of you who like rhythm and action games, one game combining the two genres was shadow dropped almost 2 days ago on PC and Xbox. It's called Hi-Fi RUSH. It looks like a really stylish and fun game, with animation and an atmosphere on par with cartoons from the 90s and 00s. They released a deeper look at the gameplay, and it doesn't penalize you for not moving with the beat in combat (outside of enemies attacking with it). Most surprisingly of all, it's from the makers of Evil Within.
