I'm cautiously optimistic. Shadow Hearts is one of my favourite games to this day - particularly because it had meaningful, lasting consequences, darker aesthetics, unsettling horror and a varied cast. The ability for the main character to take on monster forms was a neat touch as well especially in a genre that has a weird obsession with light. Extra points for being set in the real world and being one of the few JRPGs to date that takes the cast not only across parts of Europe but specifically the UK.

With that said, I'm a little wary of throwing money at projects so I'll let other people handle that part.

I hope it goes well, as Wild Arms is one of the best RPGs of all time, but the term, "Spiritual Successor" is something of a red flag for me.

It usually means similar visuals and gameplay, but a lot of the time there's so much that's different that it doesn't really feel like it's succeeding at anything other than being a knock-off.

Other times it just means they do a lot of cameos.

Yeah, the question I ask myself is whether it's really going to be a spiritual successor or if it'll be compromised for the sake of appeasing the braying mobs that prowl social media. I'd like to think part of the reason the development team are going the kickstarter route is precisely because they'd prefer to avoid compromising their vision for the game but I guess only time will tell if that's the case or not.

Thankfully it seems that certain games are being widely mocked for bending over backwards to appease people who don't even ordinarily play video games and are flopping as a consequence of just that.

I was worried when I saw Wild Arms in a SE board since my gut reaction assumed SE bought the rights and was going to pull a Live a Live on us by rewriting the "problematic" parts of the story. Time to break out my wallet, I need some classic jrpgs in my life!

The one thing I give credit to PoE for is the fact that you can play a levelling build with actual rotations and structure to it from the get-go. D3's levelling doesn't allow for that for example, and it looked like Grim Dawn doesn't either. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm definitely not judging the game to be bad or anything. It's just the impressions I got from watching someone else play. The touches do sound great though.

Another problem, I installed it once and it refused to go past a black screen. No clue why.
I'll give you that it does start slow but just about every diablo clone I have played seem to start slow in the first 10 or so levels since a lot of the more useful skills for a class tend to be passives. If anything, the game suffers from not really telling you what two classes vibe with each other. If you are going solider/arcanist then you will have a bad time in later levels unless you gear up and have a build planned for that combination. That said, I love the game for allowing dualclasses that have unique names for each combination. As for the black screen issue, I remember that was a bad issue back in the day. Kind of stinks that it's still an issue, lol.

Shadow Hearts is one of my favorites as well. It was dark, horror-esque while also having its own lighthearted moments from time to time, with a very unique battle system using the Judgement Ring and Sanity Points. I also like how the franchise threw a curveball by having bad endings of previous games as canon. That's a gutsy move, and one that paid off well.

Managed to dodge night shift by the skin of my teeth, only because they put the probationary employees on instead - something that normally wouldn't happen but "business conditions."

Woulda really sucked, especially since we're almost at the end of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign and I'd have hated to have to drop out so close to the end (playing a pure Fighter... Never. Again.) I knew something was up though, they never really hire people on our line so it was pretty unusual to get so many in so short a time. I'll have more work, and I feel for the poor bastards since I started on night shift myself... but it's a relief.

Very skeptical of Kickstarter spiritual successors after Mighty No. 9.
I'd give it a chance. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night came out pretty well, IMHO.

That game brought me back to the good ye ol' symphony of the night days.

It was long, but man was it a good game. Made me replay the entire Castlevania series. Harmony of Dissonance...did not age well. Easily the worst in the series (that is not an N64 title), but even then it's still good.
