I grew up with microtransactions that you could buy once and be done with it. Stuff that was just in the store. Those were the days..
Someone older than me will just come in here and say they remember the days when there were no microtransactions.![]()

I remember buying NES games at Child Works. How many of you whippersnappers even remember Child Works?
Microtransactions have been with games as long as Arcades have existed. I fondly remember requiring all of the quarters I could find in my house in order to make serious attempts at beating certain arcade beat'em ups.
The microtransaction being, "Would you like to continue?" After using your two lives which get expended from just a few hits as you try to progress through the hordes of baddies in the 14 level game, also replete with bosses that kill you in a single hit.
The more lenient games letting you have 3 continues before pumping you for more money!

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
I don't even know what that is.
Now instead of spending quarters, you get the opportunity to spend tens of thousands of dollars a season in games!Microtransactions have been with games as long as Arcades have existed. You should come to my uncle's house then. He's a hoarder and has Atari games, one of them being the notorious E.T. game. There's a path you need to follow to get to the game room, though.
This one is beyond your help. Only sleep can save her now.
Truer words have never been spoken. Microtransactions are simply evolving. Gaming continues to grow as a major entertainment power. Whether it be your All the bravest,Diablo Immortal, or the numerous waifu gacha games to your Madden, NBA 2k, or Fifa, companies are going to find a way to milk the customers for as much as possible. As much as people yell from the hilltop, down vote on Metacritic, or boycott all together, there will be just as many who will not say a thing and just pay.
If you play FGO, you should know with the Castoria craze about to hit in full. All you see is people brag about how broken she is. And that's all you need for some to waste money on something that they think that they need.
Merlin cutely in the corner, with Oberon laughing his face off.
But really, the issue with microtransactions are irresponsible people and the gambling-like effect that they have. Remember, there's a reason why they're banned in some countries.
Dragon's Dogma 2 and Final Fantasy VIIR - Part 2 announced on the same day? Very nice.
