I wouldn't worry too much about the 'meta' in ESO, especially if you're not intending to do high end content. It's by no means 'meta' but I play a Breton Nightblade who specialises in using a pair of daggers and a bow in battle...and tapping into stamina rather magicka. It leaves me at a disadvantage compared to what would be considered 'meta' but it's the playstyle and overall 'class fantasy' that I enjoy most.

That's true, it's just not how my brain works tho.
I can still play weaker factions or characters in RTS and fighting games ( I have a curse where my favorite characters in fighting games are usually some of the worst and most difficult to play ).
But I still hate the feeling that I am not performing '' properly '' so to speak, it kinda took the fun out of Starcraft 1 and 2 and Warcraft 3 for me back in the day.
I was really good at the games RTS have just been one of my strongest genres, but part of the reason why I was good was also because I got rly deep into the meta builds and timings etc I got really into the E-sports side of things too.
And it kinda just made it not fun to play, but at the same time I hated the feeling that I wasn't performing as well as I could if I didn't.

Basically I can pick a faction or character that isn't the best, but I still have a VERY strong urge to play the character optimally that is hard to get over.

Unless the game just really hooks me somehow enough for me to want to play with other people in high end content, which I don't really expect it to insofar as the MMO and battle content aspect goes, I definitely won't really be caring much about meta. Heck, I don't care about meta in here either!

I've had a tendency to play characters in past TES games who use magic and dual wielding. Duel-wielded and used spells in Morrowind as a Dunmer, was a Dark Brotherhood Altmer assassin dual-wielding Umbra and Dawn/Duskfang in Oblivion. More than likely would continue the tradition in ESO. x'D Probably as a Dunmer though, they don't look as bad in ESO as I remember they did in Oblivion.
