I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.
Actually, my first MMO was Runescape. It's a bittersweet memory. For one thing, I can't even play the original anymore. For another, I was like 13 when I started playing, and I met another player whose character name was, "Zigina." She was supposedly 16 and from Belgium. She helped me do all of the high level quests at the time, particularly getting to and slaying the dragon so I could wear Rune Platemail.
My first online crush. I played Runescape with her every day for about a year and a half. And very much wanted to go to Belgium. Then one week she tells me that her folks were blaming her mental issues on Runescape, and were banishing her from the computer. Iirc, I think she even said they were considering mental institution... She'd done some wrist cutting :/
Literally never saw her online again.
Kept playing for a while after that, into the first version of 3-D Runescape, now known as Old School Runescape...(it's not). It never felt the same, and I never made a better friend. I'd go back every now and then, because it was easy to play during HNM windows or NM spawn waits in FFXI. I think the last time I did anything serious, Runecrafting had been around for a little while, and they'd just added Slayer to the game.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
