    Some tidbits:

"Hallo, mein Name ist..." ="Hello, my name is..." However, most won't use this exact translation and go with "Ich bin..." = "I'm..."

Then you might encounter some regional variants for greetings. "Servus" or "Grüß Gott" (= greet god) will tell you that you are in southern Germany, most likely Bavaria.
"Moin" is a clear sign that you are in Northern Germany and is often replied to with another "Moin" or "Moin Moin" or if people are really fancy they go with "Hallo Moin."

"Wie geht es dir?", shortened "Wie geht's?" = "How are you?". Replies are "Mir geht es gut/schlecht" = "I'm fine/not well." A very famous (northern) german replying is "Joa, muss." which roughly translates to "Well, has to work out", meaning you're not to well but able to somehow work it out... seriously, it transports so much emotion that it's hard to explain.

And for some Geography: the famous Aldi-Äquator (Aldi Equator). This is the line that divides Germany, but not quite north/south, but merely the fact whether there is Aldi Nord (North) or Aldi Süd (South). Those two aren't exactly the same with different products. However, the Aldi Equator only works for Germany. The Aldi in UK, for example, is an Aldi Süd.

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.
