It's so crazy and sad to me how toxic the Reddit page is, Reddit is like a different universe for pretty much anything tho.
Especially the comments and how the karma system is abused, you can look at a cosplay pic and it'll be overwhelmingly positive but then when you scroll down to the comment sections it's just endless completely unnecessary cruelty and those comments are highly upvoted and every positive comment has a negative downvote...
Same with art, and mostly it's with female characters in cosplay and art ( especially if they're feminine or show skin ).
The whole comment section becomes full of negativity.
I've seen a lot of artists talk about this recently and how they avoid Reddit like the plague because of it, and people always hide behind '' it's just criticism bro gotta learn to deal with it ''.
Being a toxic asshole isn't criticism, and most of it is completely clueless.
Like I've unironically even seen big Twitch Streamers ( so someone who isn't anonymous ) unironically say that lineart in art is bad and ruins it, that was his '' criticism ''.
That's not actual criticism and he was extremely rude on purpose about it.

There's a reason why artists don't generally ask randos online for criticism.
There might be really obvious things they can point out like '' ya forgot to draw five fingers '', but most people aren't equipped to give actual criticism that is legit helpful beyond that.

I can feel like it's pretty ridiculous too if especially at summer someone draws their character in a swimsuit for example and it gets downvoted to hell.
Not even in an erotic way but totally normal and extremely tame, just the mere fact that it's a swimsuit even in the context of summer gets downvoted because people are so unironically triggered by women showing skin.
Or if someone draws their character in an ingame maid outfit, people are just so damn uptight about this on Reddit it's complete insanity.
It gets downvoted to hell and people get extremely mad about it, the only thing that doesn't get a crap ton of negativity around it is basically if you draw your character in heavy armor that covers them from neck down and even then the comment section still becomes all like '' ermaghurd finally art that isn't like that gross icky stuff I am so triggered by ''.
Like they still find ways to complain about it even then.
Dear lawd forbid if it has even slight feminine curves too then it's even worse.

I don't understand why Reddit is so extremely bad with this, people always talk crap about Twitter and I do agree that Twitter is extremely toxic especially in regards to politics.
But when it comes to art and cosplay it's in all honesty very relaxed for the most part.
But on Reddit everyone has a massive stick up their ass and can't relax at all and these people hijack every comment section.
And sometimes it's even the majority who decide to downvote things, even just people asking genuine questions can be in like the 30-20% upvotes region.

Small rant but I just don't understand it and it legit actually does make me a bit mad.
This complete unnecessary cruelty and toxicity is really upsetting to me and it's not reflective of my actual experience with the community ingame at all.
It's like two separate universes and it makes using the Reddit page an extremely negative experience.

So someone downvoted your commission? Joking aside the big issue with the 14 reddit is that there is an art specific spin off reddit that get neglected while at times the main reddit is swamped with art and little else.

From what I've heard, a lot of the art on there is actually just there as advertisement for the artist.

As an Artist, I can say there are a lot of great places to post artwork; Reddit is sadly not one of those places; at least from my experience; as it feels a lot of the time reddit users are very much going to favor what appeals to them the most and very rarely will look at something as a piece of art, but instead as a image of whatever they prefer to be looking at.

I don't exactly blame them, Reddit isn't a art website; although there are art focused subreddits, and those fair much better, but i personally prefer something like DeviantArt, ArtStation, Behance, or Fanfictiondotnet.

EDIT: Nuts, i should post something of substance, xD; uhmm, here's a piece of artwork i was making for Cyberpunk that i never finished.

You get those and then the other half is people directly tracing over a screenshot of their character passing it off as art, and then everyone is suddenly singing praises to the artist. It's the weirdest shit to me. I figure people should easily recognize a 3D character model from the game doing a dote emote, even if it's got very shaky linework scribbled over it.

But I think it's all just part and par of the reddit atmosphere in general, I've never posted on any art related subreddit and had a good time. I think the only one I ever did that reddit took positively was a portrait I did of my bf's toon (male Au RA) and that was out of spite because they were mad at all the cat girl art at the time.
