A while back ago for example some people tried to claim that Swedish meatballs are actually Turkish, but they mistook their history for Kåldolmar ( cabbage rolls ) which are a reinterpretation of Turkish Dolma.
But Kåldolmar are still different from Dolma and we consider it our own.
But even with meatballs pretty much all countries have/ had their own version of it, I mean good luck hunting down the original meatball xD.
So I don't really think that US cuisine is less valid because how it has developed is the same as it has around the world really.
