Kind of hard to have the Elder Scrolls version of Doom Guy but for elves in FFXIV :P

I was reading up on him due to this comment, as the Knights of the Nine expansion was something that my brain did not keep.

Reading it in a darker light, particularly after what that heart stone necromancer does in Solstheim in Skyrim, it's got me thinking maybe "Saint" Alessia wasn't such a good pure hearted girl after all (I mean she took a winged minotaur as her lover *ahem*). With his many aliases, he may have been basically a perfected version of what happens to General Falx Carius repeated on several dudes (all those alt names for him) until we got the one that rips off Umeril's wings.

Heart replacement is becoming a trend in Elder Scrolls.

I've always favoured the Elven races in most fantasy settings, personally. The trend of proud, ancient races being wiped out for the sake of humanity to prosper is a trope I find to be rather stale.

I prefer them aesthetically usually, and I like that they have more unique lore than like generic fantasy high medieval human kingdoms... well, that or "barbarian bonk" humans. Funnily enough, I have gotten into arguments in like ESO, or steam community, with human purists - the people that only play as one. A lot of people do like that trope. I wish more games sort of fit their lore like how ES does their races, speaking on that.. What I mean is quite detailed and unique backstories, that tie directly into the world's unique setting. Granted, ES has a habit of having that lore trampled on with each further entry. You know nords actually have/had their own pantheon of Gods?

I'd actually like to see more unique racial lore and culture in this game as well, speaking of that too. I like how Ishgardian elezen, hingans, garleans, etc. are fairly unique. It would be interesting if they delved deeper into this sort of stuff, in EW, and further patches and expansions.

I like Elven races best when they are actually allied with men, rather than against them.

The thing about Elder Scrolls Mer is that they had plenty of in fighting and mystery to each of their individual societies. I'm rather entranced by the Dwemer, even though we can't play them, because they were high tech and essentially built god and got raptured for it or something lol. Their tech is so advanced that certain special creations were taken to be the signature weapons/champion gifts of the Daedra.

Prior to that though, they allied with the Snow Elves, because the Snow Elves had no choice, and then enslaved their fellow Mer with their technology.

I don't read a lot of pure fantasy, so I'm not aware if there are any other Elven races like the Dwemer. My next favorite after them are the Orsimer, but that's only because I'm a berserker murder hobo, and also because the Orsimer at least by Skyrim are allied with the races of men. Then the Dunmer. Then the Bosmer. Altmer... I'll judge on an individual basis, but stereotypically they can suck it!

By far the angle that allows ES lore to trample on most other fantasy game lore is in the philosophy behind all the conflict within the setting. The Anu/Padomay divide and how it's reflected in the races and powers within the world. Big fan of Boethiah myself.

I'm a plant ecologist by training and grew up within easy travel distance to forests so I've always had a soft spot for Elves. Being fairly slender for most of my pre-middle aged life their more delicate physiology appeals to my aesthetic as well so I tend to play them more than other races. I'm a big fan of how this game has treated them as a race and multiple societies. The idea of two different groups of Elves creating two dramatically different societies/nations has been an interesting way to expand on the race and nose-thumb the traditional tropes. Elezen for life!

I've never been fond of elves. Or "totally not elves but fills the same niche", like the asari in Mass Effect. The whole better-than-everyone-else shtick gets old.
