Off Topic Discussion Megathread

I brought this up in another thread but the other language forums have this or something similar. I think it's high time we have a generic off-topic thread, this way megathreads such as the male-viera, fem-hroth, etc threads don't get derailed every few pages.

It won't fully prevent it, but if there's a space dedicated for discussions that would otherwise derail dedicated threads, I'm sure that'd help!

(PS I was gonna make this yesterday but. Spectrum internet. 'Nuff said.)

Well, I am pretty sure off-topic discussion in FFXIV general is against the forum guidelines, so that may be why, but I digress.

I read the rules, sounds like they mean derailing but worded it weirdly. TBH if they delete this thread then you have your answer, but for now it’s a good place to consolidate lively discussions that would otherwise derail other topics.

I guess we'll see how things go. On the official forums for other games that I play, such threads are typically tolerated because they're a good way at building a sense of community among the regular posters as well as a place for new posters to show up and feel part of something.

I'd even be inclined to suggest that this thread would be a good place for our community representatives to show up and engage with us!

According to the english forum (NA/UK) guidelines we shouldn't be! In fact, the whole thread (and all the posts therein) should be deleted!

Like I said, they'll kill the thread if it's not something they condone, but TBH considering DE, FR, and JP forums have threads thousands of pages long for the same kind of discussion, I'm not sure it's something they think is actually against the rules. But like I said, if they don't want this here they'll kill the thread.
