Pokemon is one of those games that I sort of wish grew up alongside its audience but I understand why it didn't. I guess I pretty much outgrew it - haven't touched a Pokemon game in years and what I've seen of some of the weird character designs and localisation choices hasn't done much to sell me on them.

They're also not the most nuanced or story driven games around in the first place which typically kills my interest in a setting. With that said, I'm looking forward to Tactics Ogre Reborn and Diofield Chronicle. They seem set to have what I want in spades.

I loved X and Y. It made me tear up. Sun and Moon weren't enjoyable for me because Lusamine was... very kooky. Almost bordered on fan service. Also seeing our character's dumb smiling face in every damn cutscene... I didn't finish Ultra Moon but I got to the last Gym. 99% the same aside from new characters butting their way in ever so often, battles with them, and a slight change to the initial Team Aether ending.

I absolutely adored Omega Ruby/Alpha Saphire. The addition of Zinna (especially in the manga), the relationship with your rival/other characters, and the evolution of Wally was a masterstroke.

One thing I do have to say about Sun and moon. Besides Wally's new theme in ORAS, both of Guzma's themes were straight bangers and fit him to a T.

God, now that was a HUGE annoyance. Broke some stuff on my PC while trying to clear out space on my SSD. Couldn't fix it, so I just formatted and reinstalled windows instead. I didn't do as much prep work as I should have. Luckily I had a decent amount of recovery options for emails. I'm pretty sure I lost at least 3 or 4 emails, but anything I actually use I recovered. I'll have to see if I can find those other ones, but if not.. oh well. While recovering all my emails (I make my passwords so ridiculous I don't remember them), I also noticed my phone number on all of them was out of date, so that was a thing. Luckily I had my main email I use for recovery logged in on my phone.

I have most stuff installed on my spare HDD, so I didn't lose much, and I am planning on buying another SSD with more space soon anyway. I was needing to reinstall windows anyway too, due to my Windows 10 being corrupted, I'm pretty sure. I have just been putting it off for awhile.

I did free up a large amount of space doing this, so I guess I got what I wanted to begin with..

Sun & Moon were very good story-wise. I don't know about the "Ultra" updated versions, there wasn't enough new content in those for me to bother with them.

Sword & Shield were mid at best.

Legends: Arceus greatly shakes up the formula. Its story is nothing special, but I greatly enjoyed it all the same - much more than I have any Pokémon game since... what, Black & White? Fortunately it looks like Scarlet & Violet are taking a page from this one...

Not interested in the Gen 4 remakes. They take steps backwards, unlike the other remake games that kept the modern feel but applied it to older regions.

I think that's the thing, until gen 5 pkmn has never been trying to have "important" stories and characters, now gen 5 was good but it felt more of a fluke because basically everything afterwards was very bland and one dimensional. I just wanna go catch monster and become champion without incessantly getting interrupted by NPCs, and I want the freedom to explore at my own pace, maybe take shortcuts, have plenty of optional side zones. Gen 1 to 4 had a good balance of that and tbh while I don't remember how it was in gen 5 I found it enjoyable but there were clear signs of the "beginning of the end" there.

Now the characters have no depth whatsoever and Hau and Hop are some of the most unbearable characters I've ever had the displeasure of having in a video games.

Well here is to hoping gen 9 will move away from being constricted by NPCs and hallways... At least the hallway part is going away for sure.

Okay, just for future reference in case further accidents happen (be it to you or to anyone else who plays on PC), back up your settings files. They're in your "My Documents" folder, and they really can save moments like these. They contain UI and Hotbar information.

So many of my friends either had to wipe their drive or get a new PC and then complained because they didn't save those files.

Yeah, it's just one of things I failed to do prep work for. I'm sure I lost all my character presets too. Either way, I think my new UI is a bit more clean, I still have some tweaking, it's fairly similar though. It's mostly remembering where all my skills go and what keybinds for them all that's the most annoying. I have just DNC done for now. See, I don't really know my skill names. It's mostly muscle memory, hotbar placement, and the little picture for each skill that I remember.

It was funny, with DNC, I was pretty much able to place everything where they should be just by remembering what my hotbar placement looked like. Tested it and my redone keybinds, before going into a duty, I had everything exactly where they should be. When I get around to WHM and RDM next, it'll probably be the same thing.
