It was petty of them, sure, but if you were spamming their chat log...well...it is what it is. Personally, if I see someone spamming my chat with emotes, I just move away from the area and continue about my day. Fixes my problem instantly and there is no need to report anyone.

Yep was a warning. Kind of a neat experience nonetheless.

I agree and fully understand, but people making the effort to fill in that report instead of just whisper, which takes far less time is just odd to me. :/

I'd imagine that a lot of people don't like conflict or the potential of conflict, so this is their way of dealing with a problem without having to actually deal with the situation themselves. They ignore the other solution, that being actually communicating with someone to address an issue, even if it takes significantly less time. Passive aggressiveness is par for this community's course most days when a problem arises.

I'll be honest I've started reporting emote spammers once in a blue moon depending on where I am. Limsa? Nah. But in an instance? Yes. The mindset isn't avoiding potential conflict, it's ensuring that the situation gets resolved - had a group wipe because someone kept spamming danger bongos + text emotes in chat, distracted our healer, and basically snowballed our raid into death. They presumably got a warning since I checked up on them via a mutual friend and said mutual friend said they've not been online in a couple days (they previously were a play all the effing time kind of person). It's funny once in a while but every 2 seconds is a bit much...

There's also the distinct possibility that the person who's doing it is aware and doesn't give two shits :P

I wonder if they're the same people who'll go and muse on reddit about how suffering is necessary, while even a simple conversation terrifies them? Just an idle musing.

    they don't know you.
People assume that people have the common sense to not spam stuff.
So when they see spam, they assume trolling.
So they called the cops on you. LMAO

That's so bizarre! I'll be honest, I absolutely despise this game's community - I think there's a few good apples here and there, though I won't even pretend to have any respect for people who go out of their way to make an issue out of what is quite obviously an innocent mistake in the majority of cases. Any reasonable individual could deduce that if someone is 'spamming' an emote on the day it was added to the game is simply trying it out.

It's a real shame that the game's report system is clogged up by such 'issues' and it goes a long way towards explaining why it's so difficult to get major problems dealt with, I suppose.

I just really hope society sees a return to a 'live and let live' mentality combined with 'just use the ignore button' in such scenarios in the future.

I understand and I still hold on my argument that this hypothetical scenario could have been proven by one simple PM. Does the player continue to break the TOS or is he even disrespectful? Ignore, block and report. But before you really know the intention of the other player? Meh, can‘t see it. I hate conflict just as much, especially in a place where you just want to relax and break away from the treadmill of everyday life.
I hope at least people like that have the backbone to whisper and point out the mistake to newer players e.g. sprouts.

+ 1, exactly sums up my thoughts.

Worst is the emote spam that sounds like moaning especially when it's Lalafells doing it.
Luckily I play with a headset.....
I'd be kinda scared of going into Limsa with Speakers on.

I dunno why you'd judge the games community based on what a fringe does tho tbh.
If I judged the games community based on the Forum I wouldn't be playing the game at all, I can push back pretty hard against people ingame and I've never gotten a warning I didn't even know the jail was a thing until last year.
I think you'd probably have to be pretty unlucky to get reported and have anything happen because of something like that tbh ( especially since I see it done all the time in Limsa ).
I still think most people in FFXIV frown upon needless reporting I don't think it's some celebrated or widespread thing.

I know I've been reported too I've had people tell me but I've never had a GM contact me or been sent to jail.
Including one time when I actually did spam Holy intentionally to annoy someone because they were openly spamming chat with ERP, the female character /slap me and I did it back and the guy had a complete mental breakdown at me and acted like I had slapped his girlfriend irl.
His other friend joined in too and both said they were reporting me with ingame screenshots and everything lol, nothing ever came out of it.

I don't think I'd ever report anyone for it unless it was some bigoted crap.
But I've definitely had people spam stuff like ultra cutsey raid macros when ressing ( like 10+ for ressing one person ) and it's VERY distracting lol.

If we're in the middle of a fight and I see something in chat I assume it's important and my eyes go immediately down to read so someone spamming can be a bad time.
