Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

I think special customization expansion is a victim of Covid. Japan, in general, had a much harder time with the transition to working at home than most countries had, and if I were in Yoshi-P’s position, focusing on the content most players enjoy verses the niche things is how I would’ve done it, too. But, I don’t like the fact it seems like it was a cancelled feature, unlike, say, the delayed Thordan Ultimate.

My dream is for Hrothgirls to become available now that Viera exist, but I can’t even play Viera without intense annoyance at how small their hair pool is verses every other female character option, and it feels inevitable that Hrothgirl’s will have it worse since they borked up the guys from the start. Also, personally, I see more Hrothgar players on average than male Lalafell (at least judging by male exclusive glamour).

Do you think, at this point, the general playerbase would be fine if Viera and Hrothgar got a couple of exclusive hairstyles in a patch instead of everyone else getting one or two new options?

Honestly, at this point, just an acknowledgement of the lack of options and even a basic "We're working on it!" would be better than anything.

I think everyone can understand and sympathize with that, last year really was something. But if they can come out and be honest and say they pushed back the Ultimate for <reasons> then why can't they do the same for this?

We're closing in on 2 years since release, and beyond the first few statements that came out early on and a vague mention in the art stream they've completely stopped communicating about it, it's like the races didn't even exist.

What's done is done at this point but I wish they'd just talk about it.

I hope they would be, but with how often requests for additional hairstyles are made I don't think many would see the irony in complaining they didn't get anything this particular patch.

I think it would be fair, considering we have had several hair releases now without anything for buns and catmen. However, knowing this playerbase, there would be at least a very loud minority having an absolute meltdown over not only there being only Viera and/or Hrothgar hair, but the fact other races don't have access to it.

That's also the interesting double edge to this sword: The fact Viera and Hroth can't use modern aesthetics means that other races won't be able to use their hair, either.

Could you imagine? Viera and Hrothgar players getting to tell others that access to these hairstyles is just a Fantasia away?

More seriously though, in a perfect world it wouldn't be either/or and all races would be supported to a fairly similar degree. But realistically, with what we know something's gotta give and it shouldn't always have to be us.

The argument against that is every race has a selection of exclusive hairstyles, and the limitation is that short list of exclusives is all Viera/Hrothgar have. I see players begging for the Au Ra girl’s hime cut, and Lalafell and Midlander girls both have exclusive bun hairstyles I would be all about. And, let’s not forget that for years the only race with multiple long hair options were Roegadames.

SE needs to figure out who the screaming minorities actually are; us players who want more goodies for the ShB races, or those who don’t. And a hell of a lot players sure love the towering, bunny-eared, women.


Another note to add, a huge majority of the newer haircuts I had to purchase/grind for clip through my Auri girl’s horns!

That brings up a question I hadn't considered before. Would new hair for V/H be from a modern aesthetic (perhaps tied to another hairstyle for others. It would be strange but perhaps more.. tidy?), in the mogstation, or just automatically added to the barber?

And then there's also the crowd that wants less hairstyles that everyone shares and more styles catered to their character's race or gender.

There are a lot of voices and none of them are necessarily wrong, but there are 6 races that receive new options with some regularity (whether these hairstyles are to their particular taste or liking is another matter) and 2 that receive nothing.

Looking at the reality of "exclusive and unique hairstyles" I don't think many would want to trade if it meant possibly waiting 2+ years.

I'd imagine they would just add them to character creation/barber like they used to do before the Modern Aesthetics items existed.

Not that that would be any better for Hrothgar with the way they're currently set up.

I hope, when it's fixed and the hats and hair start flowing for bunnygirls and tigerboys, they don't "fix it" like they "fixed" the calfskin rider's cap for Miqo'te

My ears hurt being folded up like that!

The number of Miqo'te hats (old and new) where the ear covers are impossibly small, incorrectly placed or just plain absent is disappointing.

While it doesn't outright stop the characters from wearing the item, I feel like it severely restricts what "works" and looks good on them. The ear placement is distracting and ruins otherwise nice hats.

While it was mostly a joke I do feel that the hairstyles for the missing genders will be mogstation exclusive.

Personally at this point I would be fine if they either let the gear clip like crazy or just made it so headgear removes the ears altogether. Let the player just choose.
