Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

Have you actually looked at the Lightning hair closely? The strands of hair literally grow out of one ear and stab straight through the other.

It's not terrible and I don't mind if that's what it takes to get access to more hairstyles, but that one in particular has really not gotten more special attention compared to others.

Well, except 2b maybe. That one got a little too much attention.

If we consider that they gave up with tails and ears from races like lalas, elezen a miqotes... is not going to get better until the female version of "ronsos" at home is added. After that old races are still in need of a small facial revamp. Compare to vieras (or new npcs) ARR races looks derpy at times. Female highladers facial textures are a good example of this.

Then we could talk all day about hair textures...

To be clear, I really don't give much of a damn about clipping, if the choice is between hair clipping with the ears or no hair then by all means let it clip somewhat.

I was disagreeing with HeyMcFly saying that the Lightning hair was somehow better done than the others because it's a Mogstation hairstyle, or it is nowadays at least.

Viera are still missing lots of hairstyles in the game, from all i unlocked in the game, i can only pick like 4 of them. + one from the mog station.

There's a good chance that if they made male and female Viera at the same time they'd have made the same mistake and would still need to go back and fix whatever was wrong with female Viera originally.

They also haven't even done anything for Hrothgar yet and we still only got 6, so I'm not so sure it would've been much better that way unfortunately.

What i had in mind was gender-locked viera. So all the effort would've gone into the female viera instead of being spread out across female and male viera/hrothgar. I think having viera be gender-locked is perfectly fine since male viera have to my knowledge literally never been shown in any FF game ever. And viera are supposed to be extremely rare to begin with and on top of that 8 out of 10 viera are born female. Male viera should imo be extremely rare and them being absent shouldn't really raise any eyebrows, it was to be expected.

I imagine that it took quite a bit of work getting hrothgar into the game to begin with due to their very unique model and the end result wasn't really anything to write home about. Extremely limited customization, hair tied to the face, no unlockable hairstyles work on them, no hats etc.

I just want the original viera females to be able to wear hats and use the unlockable hairstyles like every other pre-Shadowbringers race and i would without hesitation sacrifice all the hrothgars and bunny bois in the name of Yoshi P for that. I just want female viera to feel like a "complete" race. Makes me real sad that it's been what, over 2 years now and we've gotten a couple awful hairstyles and not even most of the EW hats was made to work on them, meanwhile they've been working hard to bring out male viera and female hrothgar. It just feels like they are giving us quantity over quality when it comes to the post ShB races and i will always choose quality over quantity.

If you're not gonna do something right, don't do it at all. That's my motto.

Viera has in my opinion the best animations in the game (their run/jump animations especially, they are perfect) and voice options but it just makes me so sad that they've been so neglected. I think that if you're gonna go through the trouble of adding a new race you should do it right. IMO hrothgar should not have been added at all. Imagine if all the effort that went into hrothgar had instead been poured into the viera. Instead of getting one "complete" new race we got 2 half-arsed races riddled with issues and limitations.

The only thing I've ever really disliked about viera was their limitations. I do think that coupling hrothgar and viera came with some complications -lack of updates probably being one of them, but it took the devs until like the end of ShB to even start looking at making it easier to implement hairstyles for viera. I feel like they were kind of made and forgotten about - both viera and hrothgar. If viera alone had come out, I'm not sure if we wouldn't still have had similar issues, unfortunately.

Yeah, that lightning hair doesn't look very good at all. That hair is an odd one though, while it is a mogstation hair, and I appreciate they added paid for hairstyles, the textures just really kind of clash with your ears. Maybe with darker hair colors it's less noticeable? It really doesn't look like they adjusted much if anything with that particular style.

I don't have a whole lot of hope or expectation that they will spend more resources on porting over too many more of the previous unlockable styles. Maybe a few (such as anything bought in the mog station, or designed in a contest), but I very much doubt all.

Yeah, that'd be great, but I'm not holding my breath. When we get hairs, I expect it to be few and far between. I'd like to be optimistic, but two years of ShB with nothing, kind of made that impossible. Au Ra is a good one to ween yourself off many headpieces since their horn clipping makes many headpieces unusable (for me). I do prefer the type of headgear viera can already wear: circlets, tiaras, etc.. anyway.

Hopefully so, but yeah, I don't want to let myself get disappointed over it again. It's one race now, and shouldn't be tied to hrothgar anymore either. I'd like to believe, I really would. Anyway, aside from that, I hope the new hairstyles we get from here on actually look good, not just the ported hairs. I'm sure they will port more, I'm mostly concerned about the quality.
