Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

What they said was that they would not have as many when they release, but they were going to do race exclusive hairstyles for both of the races to make up for the modern aesthetics they can't port over. The community upset over this subject happened when month after month came and went with that promise not being met in any capacity at all while they kept releasing new things for everyone else which they have acknowledged several times. I'm fine with either approach, but the disparity needs to be addressed.

No, they said they would never have the amount of options or selection as any other race.
They never expressed in any shape that they intended to "make up the difference" by giving them any huge amount of unique hair, you're reading something you want from something they said (Yes, YP said at first that they would give Viera SOME old hair and only ones that worked before changing it to only unique hair ... before showing us now that it's shared hair. It's been confusing, but they have never said that you should expect to ever have the same number as other races).

Like, there's currently 28 unlockable hairstyles in this game and however many shared hairstyles that don't need to be unlocked (Prob 10-16 iirc)... there's no way to think that V/H would get possibly 40+ unique hairstyles to make up for not having shared hair.

The disparity will not be addressed in the way you seem to want as they've been telling us for 2 years that there's always gonna be that disparity, best to just hope Viera are now compatible with future hairstyles.

Given the hairstyles that the last contest has produced, I'd rather they don't leave our hair to the mercy of the community.

we have more potential artists and more ideas (as an artist myself included), given that so many are unhappy with the last results you should at least expect it to veer away from the ugly uncreative hairs from a contest that happened 6 years ago. But, then again people think dressing their chars in black trench coats with all black leather garments and standing in limsa looks original or cool or something, so idk the community can't all be edgelords can it? I imagine a new set of fresh minds would and could help a lot. and it doesn't have to be 10+ new hairs, just a handful of them that are different than what we have available now.

I am hoping we see some frequent updates for viera/hrothgar - especially now since I switched back. I can't say I like any of the ported hairs except for the one I am using, and this one looks better with these specific ears as well. The ponytail doesn't look terrible at a glance (from far away), but the forehead is way too pronounced, maybe it doesn't look so bad with something to hide it, like a circlet or something. It's probably still a style I won't use. I've never really liked it to begin with. I'll have to think of what specific styles I think should be prioritized to be ported. 'Gyr Abanian Plait' would be nice, 'Form and Function' too.. if SE can put in the time to make them look proper on a viera. I'll have to take a look over the default styles at some point as well, to see the next most desirable of those.

I don't think so, the ponytail has that issue for a lot of races and it isn't necessarily a problem for just Viera, the standard positioning for the hairline on Ponytails is pretty high up.





Great Lengths has a pretty normal hairline position for all races that can use it, and through "certain means" () people have been using it on Viera and it looks great. There's a possibility they'd botch it of course but it should be fine.

And yeah, that hairstyle was always like that. Forehead looks like an helicopter pad.

I'm not too worried, it's not my character nor am I encouraging anyone to install anything.

I've seen people link modded images of their characters in the 'Show your ..." threads all the time and I have myself linked images of Viera with no ears etc. and I'm still kicking.

But yeah, obligatory mods are bad, kids. Totally don't do that.

I think technically you can get banned for anything.

Several people have been posting images of modded content for a long time now and I still see them posting frequently, I could see how the content of the images or details on how to install etc. could get you clipped though.
