Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

We know that our fav bunny girls and lion dads are always under scrutiny by the Viera and Hrothgar playerbase...and for good reason. No new hairs since release date. Viera were even promised that they would have exclusive hairstyles added on for them later in Shadowbringers...and here we are...With patch 5.5, Death unto Dawn releasing this Tuesday, the two racial playerbases have not heard a peep from yoshi and his team about the disparities that is caused by the lack of customization support Hrothgar and Viera receive.

My main complains are

1. Hrothgars are the only race in the game that have to pay *actual* money to change their hairstyles because, for some genius reason, their hairstyles are tied to their faces. Hrothgar, on release date, started out with 8 racial unique hairstyles, but as I've stated before, their hairstyles are tied to their faces (theres not even a lore reason on why this is and some of the hrothgar NPCs have hairstyles that belong to different faces!). So, 8 hairstyles, 4 faces, meaning we really only get the choice between TWO hairstyles. Which, quoting a statement during the live letter before ShB release

"Hrothgar will have a robust customization" (its obviously summarized). W0w...Much robust creation :P

2. Viera, during an interview with yoshi, were stated to have unique racial hairstyles for them that will be added after ShB release. Now, after ShB release could be anywhere between just minutes after ShB opened up to literal years. However, they are kept in the dark about what this means and with ShB reaching the end of its life cycle to usher in Endwalkers in the Fall, no further comment has been made about Viera hairstyles either. I have both a viera and hrothgar character that both remain up to date on content and I'd love to actually get some REAL customization support for them

3. I can understand the team not wanting to go back and fit the older *FREE* headgear to the hrothgar and viera simply because of development costs and time taken, but this should NOT be the case for the mogstation items. I wouldn't cause this much of a stink about it if they allowed me to purchase specific pieces from the mogstation because I really only buy a lot of the outfits for their shoes, but they force me to buy the ENTIRE outfit...hat included! Thats $12 ~ $18 I spent on this whole outfit and I cant even wear the hats that comes with with ghdsbalfghidkjsakfbhdskjafdsa. Honestly, mog station headgear SHOULD be a priority since...y'know...we're spending actual money on it!

Now, I remember yoshi stating that megathreads get looked at more often than smaller, but more numerous threads on the same topics as players have stated that its becoming annoying to just see these smaller threads on an almost weekly basis.

So, lets put our worries, complaints, grievances here and for our beloved bunny moms and lion dads in this thread.

As I said in the male Viera thread, at this point I feel like the time and cost it would take to sort out Hrothgar issues would be almost equivalent to making a new race. I would be alright if they spent the time to reconfigure Hrothgar, even if I had to wait for more Viera hair, as their issues do feel a lot more pressing.

That being said, I do want more transparency on why they gone an entire expansion without keeping up their end of the bargain with Viera. We don't get hats of modern aesthetics, but in exchange we get unique hair. Alright.. where are they? We've had live letters and a new expansion announcement without so much as a word. My good faith is running thin.

I agree there. I was a bit disappointed that a lot of the questions involving the races were more geared towards Viera and not hrothgar, but I can only assume that both are included in the mix. Now, that being said, It is incredibly frustrating that I can't customize my Viera the way I'd want to customize her:

^My beautiful Queen. My patience is practically running on fumes at this point as we are the only two races that pay the same amount of money/month, but get less content. For anyone reading this and has something to say, I will say this:

Customization is considered content. Since we have limited customization options, we by default have access to Less content!

Your Viera is almost a spitting image of mine:

While I loved her, I found a lot of viera looked like this and it bothered me to the point of fantasia.

I'm hoping I won't run into the same problem with male viera, but... only time will tell.

Unless this means Viera is now "complete" and can be moved into a dev rotation where they receive hairstyles that don't conflict with their ears, you'll be stuck with 8-ish hairstyles like the rest of us and will probably run into the same problem.

This already happens for every race and isn't a bigger problem than you make of it yourself, but with only 8 hairstyles it just happens a lot more often.

Ironically the Hrothgar I see around tend to look a lot less same-y despite being in a worse situation, but that might be because they have a pretty broad and vibrant colour palette to work with.

It's because of the way the character creator works. All characters have the same template of data but the newer races use some things in strange ways that have an effect on the logic of what can be changed in-game.

This is just from observation, but I think that the aesthetician menu is set up to allow editing of specific template slots, and those settings are consistent across all races even though the template slots are used differently.

Most races have unique tattoos that can be edited, but Au Ra use the same piece of data to set their limbal rings. So because that is controlled by a setting that is allowed to be edited at the aestetician, they can edit it.

Hrothgar hairstyles are controlled by the face setting. The face setting cannot be edited, therefore hairstyles cannot be switched. The game does not differentiate them as "different hairstyles for the same face" but two separate faces which happen to be identical.

Color palette + plus the fact they don't have human faces to begin with likely wakes up more creativity in people and they experiment with all avalilable options rather than going for a smaller pool of them. After all, when we're talking about humanoid faces - most of players will go for something what is considered pretty in a conventional way, and beauty standards aren't that different in EU and NA, for the most part.

Without forgetting all the hats and hairstyles we purchase on the online store and can't use. Sure it is written on the label but still kind of unfair.

I, too, would like to see these things addressed. They should not be in the same state now as they were when Shadowbringers launched.
