To expand on the above. You typically don't need that much gp all the time it depends what your after.

If for example you are doing levequests or some of the Fisher quests and need specific fish and you know its a !! bite. Then you pretty much just hook any ! bites and conserve your gp.
Sometimes you can also take this a step further if you research bite times. Your particular fish may only bite after 9 seconds. So any !! Bites you get before that you can again just hook and save gp.

This can effectively allow you to use patience a whole lot more often. And can really increase the amount of hq fish you can catch of the ones you actually need..

It's even more usefull once you unlock patience 2 and start getting into collectables and scripts. as if you wanted to throw some watered cordials into the mix you can effectively keep patience 2 up almost constantly. pop patience 2 chug a watered cordial and go.. the hq watered share the same 2 minute recast as patience 2 so you can basically repeat forever.. or until the fishies sense something is amiss.
