    Chocobo Coloring

So I have a list of the plants I need to acquire to turn my guy into the color I want. AND I came across a list saying I need to feed it in specific order nd listing that order. AND I know a color change only comes about after being stabled for 6 hours. My question is do I keep feeding him the large number of plants all in that order THEN stable him? There are lot of them so this step may take quite a while, correct?

You can only give the chocobo color fruits while they're stabled. Feed the fruits in the recommended order so that you avoid bottoming out or topping out any of the RGB values. As you feed the fruits, you might see multiple messages about the plumage beginning to change color. Feed all the fruits, then leave the chocobo alone for six hours.

After the time has passed, the chocobo will have changed color. If it's not the color you were aiming for, some of the RGB RNG went out of the tolerable ranges for the color you wanted. Repeat the process using the new color as a starting point. You'll need fewer fruits because the new color should already be within a couple shades of your target color.

Yes, I have seen that "feeding" goes on while he is stabled. My expectation is that because there is a very specific amount of 3 fruits AND the order, I should not bottom or top any values and achieve my desired result in 6 hours. So essentially do not react to the messages... and oh boy, it's going to cost just under 100 grand!

The cost can be offset a bit if you have access to a garden. The seeds to grow those plants are all easily acquired(in fact all should be available from your grand company). The prices dont really go down because not a lot of people take the time to grow them, so those that do get their little slice of profit.

I have been thinking about a garden... my FC has plots and a good friend also have some unused plots. Yes, seeds apparently can be produced, but it seems a complex process involving cross breeding. They can be bought, at HUGE expense. I could not seem to find information like do you plant one seed per "hole," and is that only good for one crop yield and how many is in that crop.

You can also purchase seeds for the chocobo fruits from the allied seal vendor directly, and grow them in flower pots if you don't care about cross breeding.

Yeah, i was referring to buying them from the vendor. A quick search(im not in game right this minute) shows that the seeds are 15 allied seals each. One B rank hunt will get you 100 seals, so thats enough for 6 seeds even if youre just now unlocking said vendor. Depending on the soil you use the return is 18-36 plants per "hole"(shroud soil increases yield with higher grades giving more but even plain soil is still 18 plants, shroud soils are mostly mined up but can also be bought on the market board). Chocobo fruit take 2 days to grow, and if youre just doing this for the plants you dont really need to worry about cross breeds or anything like that. Just plant enough to get what you need, make sure to water them enough that they dont die, and then profit.

Well, aside from the fruits, this has been something of an adventure. First, I am following this website <https://ffxivchocobo.com/en>. Spent a ton of gil on the plants because I was impatient. VERY carefully followed the order... was going for soot black, got ink blue. Looked to ink blue to soot back, ended up with red wine. Did it to soot back, got ink blue again. No more, ink blue for all intents is black. Friend said she aw it as blue... but I dumped a screen cap then measured in Photoshop. Results were 8 RG and 10-12 B and kept that ratio in many spots while the numbers changed.

STILL, appreciate the answers re:gardening. I HAD read that to yield seeds, one had to do some form of cross breeding.

Black and white are the hardest colors to get. The fruits change the RGB values of the feathers by varying amounts, but if anything over or underflows then it messes with the end result. And what you read about crossing plants is somewhat true. A lot of seeds do only come from crosses. These seeds just happen to come from a fairly cheap and ready source. Gardening is probly a more involved system then it needs to be considering how little it is needed in the game.
