For some reason I get a lot more lag in most MMO's the closer they are to a major patch day, so its business as usual for me

This Fox exercises its right to remain silent when any asks what does it say

DDoSing is also a thing in those cases. Especially for FF14. Though in this case it just seems to be Comcast and all affiliated networks that are using their pipelines that are being effected.

It's been pretty much like clockwork since 2014 so not really coincidence. It makes sense, though. If they're not able to implement something entirely in a test environment and need to make adjustments to the production environment ahead of time, which is something we end up doing at my work sometimes when we push an update out, then it can lead to some odd and possibly unstable behavior until it's all settled back into place after the update. Its 100% coincidence that you've noticed it near a patch. Unfortunately, ISPs in NA have 0 incentive to have reliable networks with alternate routes. If it works for browsing the internet and watching youtube, most of their customers are happy and why go above and beyond that.
XIV hates packet loss. You drop a packet and the game DC's. Websites and video streaming don't care. Some games have refresh times coded in, but XIV doesn't seem to. But then, on the other hand, we don't have to deal with buggy, intrusive anti-cheat systems so...

I can't say I've had the same issues, and I've also been playing since launch. It's been pretty much like clockwork since 2014 so not really coincidence. It makes sense, though. The o ly time I've ever really had server lag issues that weren't caused by isp issues was during 2.x.

I've seen an increase in server lag and instability either that I experienced personally or would see mentioned often in shouts, party chat, etc. It's been a pretty consistent pattern. Could be some ISP stuff mixed in, too. These things almost never have just one cause. I just never found it out of the ordinary because I thought "Oh, they're mucking with something behind the scenes like we do". And things clear up not long after the updates.
Don't tend to see it on hotfixes, but you don't usually need to prep places in production like with a bigger update for a hotfix. You're fixing one or two small bugs instead of pushing out a major release.

This is my thoughts as well. Although I think most of the blame is on my ISP, I think the lag spikes these last 4 days can be some coding SE is doing within the game to slowly prep it for this major updateI've seen an increase in server lag and instability either that I experienced personally or would see mentioned often in shouts, party chat, etc. It's been a pretty consistent pattern.
