    Elemental Ward Potions

Now that I am finally getting my crafters up I am noticing descriptions like this on some potions. What does this mean about it changing to dye? Is it fluff and bull, or if I keep it in inventory for 3 years it will turn into a dye I could buy for 10 gil?

it's just the localization team having fun with the description. it will not turn into dye.

Actually it will turn to dye, or rather pigment, if you use the item from your inventory.

I think they're still used as hand-ins for the Ixal supply quests, too.

Interesting. Desynth of sorts? Just normal gatherable dyes? May have to try it.

Yes that supply quest is why finally after all these years my crafters all went from 25-30s to around 50. And finally wrapped up their and the Allied tribes quests.

They used to be battle potions when elemental resistances were a thing, but for whatever reason they didn't take the items out of the game entirely when that system was removed, so letting them convert into dye pigment was a good way of making them not entirely useless.

It's a bit like desynth in that you end up with a different item out of it, but it's not that mechanism at all. You just use the potion, it vanishes from your inventory and you receive (from memory) three pigments of the corresponding colour instead. Fire potions give you red pigment and so on.
